Yes see what you mean Eilleen,
Just having a look myself. Family still in Illogan in 1901 even. I don't see him anywhere. (Even checked Scotland) Yes you could try Census and resource requests, mentiong you have family still in Illogan just no sign of Mathew - Some one else just may have more luck. Army perhaps :-\
Good Luck..........Kris :D

Perhaps he was travelling/working at night on the railway?
meles
PS I recall on another thread that the word was not "Exchange" - might be useful to amend this thread too.
-
meles , I had not thought of that ::)
I hope not, I want to know who he was living with, ::)
what do you mean by amend it ???
Eilleen.
-
Hi Eilleen
This guy has been driving me nuts ... cannot see hide nor hair of him in 1891 ...I even checked Wales. I also had the same thought that maybe he was hidden under the train that census night ... ;D
I think what Meles meant that Ricky had seen that he was a train EXAMINER and not train exchange .
I will keep on looking ...maybe he has been transcribed under the surname of the people he was staying/living with ...
deb :)
-
okay ...
this is a weird one .....
The transcription of this is rather 'strange ' as the enumerator' s handwriting is terrible ...
This Family is in Illogan in 1891 ...what ref is his family that you found
David Dappen ...but it looks like PYPER to me ... If you go further down the page their is a Pearce family who have been transcribed as DEARCE
The capital D of enumerator is , I think a capital P ...
anyway ...
there is
David "Pyper' son single 25 blacksmith b Liskeard
Ellen dau 21
MATTHEW , son 18 ...engine cleaner
Jane dau 16
Jas? son 13 ..occ ?????
Lucy MACDONALD Horrell (?) married 23
Jno Horrell visitor 24 Grocer b penzance
here is the ref so you can take a look....
RG12/1849 24 2
beware ...it's a crazy one ;D :o :o
I don't know if this family is related to yours ...but I thought it was worth a try
deb :D
-
Just found this marriage
Lucy MacDonald PYPER = John Henry HORRILL
Dec q 1890
Redruth
Coincidence :o
deb
-

Hi kris :)
I am pretty happy with it too .... ;D I was originally trying to find a Matthew by himself as Eilleen had said they had the family in 1891....
Would you credit it 8)
all his family on 1891 and 1871, I have him and family on 1881,
but Mathew Pyper who would be 18 yrs old, is not on the 1891 census,
have you looked at the original .... ::) ::)
Nice to see you Kris :D
deb

Brilliant Deb,
Ive been gnawing away at this for two day's and getting nowhere.......
-
Hi Hep ;D
It's so great when it all comes together .... wish I could find my gypsies the same way .....When I hooked up with his sister lucy MacDonald Pyper marrying John Horrill ...I was ecstatic.... I then went and looked at 1901 again ...and David and Emma the parents of Matthew, had a granddaughter by the name of Horrill with them .....
woohoooo
deb ;D
-
Whoohoo to you to ;D

Hepburn, deb usa, Kris, meles, Althea and all the other's on the other 2 boards that Mathew Pyper has been put and hunted on. :)
I am very impressed.
now for the background to him.
A few day's ago I was searching rootschat to see if anyone had Pyper family in their tree, it seemed , not many , but Lady Di , had been looking for this family name from Scotland, I clicked in to see what Lady Di was doing, she had a fantastic photo of a large gathering, believed to maybe have a member of her family on it.
Rootchatter's were on the trail, and idea's were flying back and forth ;)
Theater company seemed to win in the end.
STILL WITH ME ???
The reason I was looking for Pyper family was that I have two photo's related I believe to this Mathew Pyper, but Lady Di has not been back on rootschat ???
although I know the two picture's were ordered by Mathew , I do not know who the ladies are in-relation to him, he had the copies done in 1901 while he was lodging at Reading.
This guy is not anything to do with my family , which is so annoying, especially after all what you lovely lot found out about him, but I am hoping it will be a nice suprise for Lady Di , I was going to post one of the back's for you all to see, and ask what you think I should do,but this board will not except pic's ???
, will she be excited :o
Eilleen
-
Hi Eilleen
Do you think one of the ladies in the photo could be his future wife? They married 1903 in reading.
Can you post the link to Lady Di's thread with the picture?
deb :)
-
Deb, I think the photo's are of, one his mum,
and like you said his wife to be. ( or a sister ) if he had not met his wife Mary Barnfield yet.
looking at Lady Di's listing's , Mathew Pyper's father David, might , and it's a big might , be the brother of Lady Di's Great grandmother , or maybe there should be another great in there ???
my family stuffed in the cupboard while I have fun with this one.
I think the photo restoring board maybe my next port of call, they could look with their expert eye's to see if there is a family resemblance or not.
will be back soon, must going do the shopping >:(

Hi everyone,
Many thanks to Eilleen and everyone else for all your fabulous information.
My apologies for my late reply - had a couple of other priorities for a while :(
The David McDonald Pyper is indeed the brother of my great grandmother. I am in the process of attempting to trace all her siblings. The spread from the Fettercairn area (Scotland) where they were born, to Cornwall, USA and Australia so it's a bit of a challenge.
Thank you again for everything and a special thanks to Eilleen who started the investigation.
Regards
Di

Lady Di,
good to have you back, hope life get's sweeter .
you have been in my thought's :)
Eilleen.
I believe this topic is now COMPLETE . Thank's to all.

Hi Eilleen,
Thank you for all your Pyper help and information and
Thanks for your thoughts - every bit helps :-*

Hi (cousin) Andrew,
Welcome to Rootschat. It does appear that you and I are related ;D
Even though it's been 11 years since this thread was started it's great to see that people are still interested. I haven't looked at my Pyper family for a long while but would be happy to share family information, stories & pics with you.
You'll need to make a couple of extra posts on Rootschat then we can share email addresses etc via PM's (private messaging)
Cheers
Di

Di, thank you for swift response. I understand Mathew was my grandfather's older brother. They we're raised in Pool, Cornwall.
I was born and raised in Cornwall. After traveling many countries, I emigrated to America in early 80s. I have many tales of Pypers from Scotland and Cornwall.
I look forward to Future discussions.
Regards, Andrew

I want to research a relative, James Pyper, RN, died in Mylor, Corwall, 66 yrs old, June 16,1855. Any recommendations for resources to check out this guy?
Thanks, Andrew
-
I'll have a look back thru my Pyper info and see if I have anything about James.
You might like to post a separate query on the Cornwall board re James RN detailing what info you already have. There resources section for Cornwall is also very useful.
I'll send you a PM with my contact details.
