Hello Barb,

Nancy is a diminutive for Ann/e.  e.g I have a niece whose middle name is Anne and half the time she is referred to as 'Nan'.  From 1908 to 1918 in the NE of Scotland there are 3 that fit the bill - images unavailable online.   Only give the year, not specific date.

1909 YOUNIE ANNIE WILSON F ELGIN /MORAY      135/00 0197 3
1912 YOUNIE DIANA ANNIE F KEITH /BANFF           159/00 0091
1911 YOUNIE MARGARET ANN F RAFFORD /MORAY  140/00 0005

John b 10/11/1902 d 28/6/1903

Nancy b 6/10/1911 (found a letter)   m Main they had 1 daughter also Nancy Younie Main who went to NSW iin Australia.  She did move back to care for her mother.

Hi, Nancy's parents married in Bellie, Morayshire in 1900.  There was a Charles Stewart Younie born there in 1908.

I can't see any births for a Nancy in either Moray or Nairn.

Hello Barb,

The reason that I looked for Anne/es was that I couldn't find any Nancys on Scotlands People. - born in all of Scotland - in the timeframe I previously posted.  The fact that she was called Nancy all her days does not mean she was not baptised Anne?

(I have afirst name which I've never used - or been called by any relative -am over 50 and have always used my middle name).

Shall look to see if SP has a death.  Did she marry - if so, what was her married name?  Regards,   Steve   :O)

The death record is for Nancy Main, age 82, in 2006. No mother's surname or maiden surname given and the image isn't available. So whoever registered her death can only have known her as Nancy. But I agree with Steve that it is possible that she was baptised as Anne/ Hannah or even Agnes. Do you know when she married or better still , have her marriage certificate?

Hi People,

Thank you for helping, can anyone else give me ideas where to look for someone who doesnt seem to have existed????

As I am not sure of Nancy's husband's first name or occupation - or when she moved from Lossiemouth to Nairn or if Mr Main was also from Lossiemouth I'm up against a brick wall.  Not able to do a Census check either!

I have found all her other siblings - interesting that she isnt among them.

The father worked for 20 years from 1901 at the Milne Institute at Fochabers then they moved to Lossiemouth when he retired.

Parents are in Lossiemouth cemetery.

Frustrating!!! ???

What information are you actually looking for if you have a note of her birth date?

Thanks for helping.

I am unable to find an actual "record" of Nancy Main nee Younie.
1. Where and when born - c6/10/1911-12? possibly in        Fochabers, Bellie, Moray.
2. confirmation of her name as I cannot find a "Nancy Younie"
3. Where and When married to Mr Main
4. Where and when did she die, where is she resting?
5. Without the above info if am at a brick wall - unable to trace her offspring.

Hi minnie  :)

I've only been able to find the same death on SP that genjen found:  Nancy MAIN, d. 2006, Nairn, aged 82.

As for Ann/Nancy YOUNIE born in Moray, I found the following between 1909 and 1913:

1909  YOUNIE Annie Wilson, reg. dist. Elgin
1911  YOUNIE Agnes Riddock, reg. dist. Bellie
1911  YOUNIE Margaret Ann, reg. dist. Rafford
1912  YOUNIE Diana Annie, reg. dist. Keith

Couldn't find a marriage as the records on ScotlandsPeople only go up to 1932 for marriages, so presumably was after that date.

Hi Barb

My money would be on the entry found by Prue:

1911  YOUNIE Agnes Riddock, reg. dist. Bellie

You say that Nancy's father worked for 20 years in Bellie (Fochabers). You also have a list of their children and place of birth for them (?).  Nancy and Agnes are as you know interchangeable in Scotland (as is Ann).  Given that you also have a family surname above, that of Riddock, I wonder from your research if that relates to a grandmother for example.

Given the period you are now in, you will only be able to confirm that it is the right cert. by either ordering a copy of it directly from SP (£10) or waiting for the new extended marriage indexes to become available on SP and ordering the marriage cert. to also confirm her parents' names.

This looks to be the birth entry for the daughter you referred to:

1939   MAIN   NANCY YOUNIE  NAIRN   /NAIRN   123/00 0057

Regards.

Monica  :)

Hi

I live in Nairn and I am pretty sure Nancy Main Senior died within the last couple of years.  If you get in touch with The Nairnshire Telegraph they will probably have a death announcement for Nancy Main Senior.  Incidently, her grand daughters husband Donald Wilson was a reporter for the Nairnshire Telegraph.  Unfortunately the paper is not online.  I tried another local paper the Press and Journal but could not find a Death Notice.  As far as I know her daughter still lives in Nairn.  If you think I can help you further please let me know.

Thank you for that IAA,

I shall write to the paper and see if I get a response from the family.

I have moved house 3 times since 2003.  Selling, renting and building, so mail may have gone astray if family did try to let me know.

Thanks for the offer of help I shall let you know in this forum if I hear back.
