Title: Another LEE family
Post by: AdeleAngel64 on Sunday 02 March 08 06:26 GMT (UK)
I am searching for info on Alice Lee, born 1862 and married to Charles Ketley, born 1861.  They had several children, Alice, Clifford, Fede, Lawrence, Willm and Alfred.  I believe that Alice had a brother (Harry) who was born in Mashbury, Essex, England.  Alice Lee is my great grandmother.

Thanks Kris,

I only heard about this site today and already have been given some great information - thanks heaps!
I was born in Great Baddow and later moved to Clacton-on-sea.  My parents emigrated to Australia when I was 7 and I have been here ever since.  Went back to England for the first time last August and saw relatives for the first time in 36 years!  Finding info on the Lee side has been difficult because they were gypsies.

 :o ;D WOW!!!!

I take you get the information from the census records.  Were do you go to get this info?  I believe the Harry Lee in the information you gave me could be my mother's uncle but the only information she could give me was that he was born under a tree in Mashbury.  Apparently when I was a toddler she would take me to visit the gypsie caravan of our relatives.

Thanks again,
Adele

Dear Adele….I am descended from The Lee Family of High Easter & have done a fair amount of Family history research. William Lee of Smallshoes (head of household 1871 1881 and 1891 censuses) was my great-grandfather. I  am descended from Arthur Lee (1891 census) who was his 2nd son from his second marrige to Hester. Arthur was my grandfather ( killed in the first world war). I think you are descended from Alice (William's eldest daughter from his first marriage to Elizabeth).
As a child I was taken to Smallshoes High Easter to visit my uncle Harry (my great uncle) & last saw him when I was in my 20's. We stayed with Harry's younger sister SarahJayne who has been added to the family by the 1991 census. I have photos of uncle Harry ( a great character with a handlebar moustache). Sarah-Jane (aunty Jinny) and her older half-sisiter Laura ( Alice's sister) who lived to be more than 100 ! Have more info if you are interested! Kind Reagards. Sue Fraser (nee Lee)
