Title: Help! Either Rootschat is crazy or I am
Post by: 'Tricia on Sunday 02 March 08 20:05 GMT (UK)
Could some kind person tell me why my status keeps reverting to Guest after I have replied to a post. It's very inconvenient as I then can't reply again or modify without signing in again or messing around going into profile and picking up the thread there.

It doesn't always happen but I seem to be spending more time messing around than I am doing searches.

No, that is not my problem - speed is fine and I don't use Internet Explorer

An example of what is happening to me

This is the thread I am currently working on

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,289670.0.html

Just posted a reply and then went back on the thread to review the previous postings. Read page 1 ok and than clicked on the 2 for the 2nd page - got that ok but had become a guest.

As regards the other lady I know a lot of people on another site have been reporting that they are having numerous problems with AOL and Internet Explorer. Apparently the two are not compatible but don't quote me on that

Hi Tricia,

It could be a cookie problem, here is a link to an earlier post they may determine if this is the problem.

I was just thinking Cookies.
If you recently updated your security (or if Microsoft did it automatically) you will have this sort of problem. But it usually fixes itself after a day or two, all your regularly visited sites re-establish their Cookies.

Hi there

I just did the cookie test,  mine are accepted, I have a similar problem every time I enter rootschat, I'm a guest, it's been ongoing for a month now. I have to login in each time, funny though as when I click on login my user name and password are already entered, I just have to hit login, again.
It doesn't make sense,  ??? the site remembers my login details when I go to login but  it should know who I am when I first enter rootschat.

Any ideas?

The site does not remember who you are to log in, that is down to information stored on your own computer. (another reason why you should be careful when using computers in the likes of Internet cafes etc)

If you are using Internet Explorer try bypassing the cookie settings by
1. right click on the E symbol and select internet options
(or with IE running select Tools on the menu and then Internet options)
2. select privacy
3. click on sites
4 enter www.rootschat.com and then click allow
5. close IE if its running and then re open it and access the site.

Thanks for the clarification.

I'm using Mozilla Firefox . I checked and my browser is  accepting cookies from rootschat.  rootschat.com   rootschatcom and  rootschat.com   PHPSESSID     maybe it will come right over time.

Regards

the number of cookies there might be the problem ..... my own version of firefox 2 shows only one cookie from Rootschat ..... Rootschat.com
Firefox 3 which I am trialling shows two, Rootschat.com and Rootschat Sessid ..... if you know your username and password it may be worth trying to delete all of the cookies , restarting firefox and then log in again to create a new single entry cookie.

Hi, Sarah

Sorry didn't reply earlier - haven't been doing much since I posted this so wasn't sure if it was still happening.

Anyway it is still happening. I only have 1 cookie for Rootschat and your little tester link tells me that this is being accepted ok.

Very frustrating

Tricia :'(

I would suspect that it is Firefox that is remembering these details rather than the Rootschat server.

Try looking under Tools, Options, Security, Show Passwords and then Show passwords again. Look for rootschat.com and it should be there.

Hi Victor

Thanks for the directions to my passwords. I normally don't have my passwords saved or remembered for sites. I've now taken them off.
