Hi All :)
At LONG last ! We now have ONLINE access to Wellington cemetery records.
Searchable database at
http://www.wellington.govt.nz/services/cemeteries/search/search.php
Have now corrected the above link - thanks again to "kiskeam" :)
> Bolton Street ~ 1849 - 1967
[Also see "Friends of Bolton Street Cemetery" website at
http://www.boltoncemetery.org.nz/
for additional information on early Wellington burials] :
> Karori Cemetery ~ 1891 to present day
> Makara Cemetery ~ 1965 to present day :

Hi Lucy
Many thanks for posting these most useful sites.
I found that for Karori the url needs to be altered to http://www.wellington.govt.nz/services/cemeteries/search/search.php

Hi Kiskeam

Yes, after posting this, I clicked onto link ... and swore mildly when I got an error page !!
Did mean to get back to it this afternoon to investigate the problem .... so many thanks for sorting it out.

Lucky you Constance- and thanks for the link Lu.
I looked for Edward Blakey HASTINGS aka "Stack" Hastings b 1880ish in England and went to NZ in 1927 to Wellington but I had no joy.
Maybe he left Wellington and died elswhere--- so the search goes on.
Thanks again for the link ,

Hi Charlotte
Sorry to hear you were not as lucky as Constance.
The following link will take you to other online NZ cemetery databases - fingers crossed, you might just find your Edward yet. :)

Hi again Charlotte
Have a look at the "Resources for Genealogists searching in NZ" thread on the first page of this board - loads of good info there. [And lots of willing helpers on this board too].

Lu,
Thanks again for the encouragement to persist. I've had very little experience with NZ searching and find the scattered nature of the records rather forbidding. I sometimes wish NZ had a freebmd type site where it was all centralized- but then USA doesn't have that either. Perhaps UK is the exception which for many of us with Uk roots that is most fortunate and gets us goinmg in genealogy.
Will do as you suggest and go back to the Resources thread.
