Hello there!,

I was wondering if your books could help? The person concerned is AGNES CLINES, died 3.12.29 .I suspect that she was buried in Ayr cemetry. Many thanks

No Clines listed. The book covers 'Ayr Cemetary- original section' so it could be she was buried in a part not covered

Thank you so much for searching the MacKays and McJannets.
None seem to match so far, but I will certainly keep the information in the event somewhere in the family I can make a match.  Your time is greatly appreciated.

I hate to beg you for further information after you have already done so much, but did you happen to notice if there were any Muirs in Ayr?  I have Gabriel Muir who died Sept. 11, 1790, Ayr Parish.  His wife, Euphemia (Baird) Muir died between 1841 - 1851, should also be Ayr Parish.

Thank you.
All the best!

The Ayr Cemetary in Holmston Rd didn't open until 1862.  There are quite a few Muirs in Ayr Auld Kirk, Newton-on-Ayr and St Quivox, but no sign of Gabriel and Euphemia.

I found another MACKAY in Ayr Auld Kirk:

Erected by William McKay...his dau Elizabeth d in Oct 18(32). And of Elizabeth Murrow his wife d3 Jul 1837 aged 49. And his son David d 5 Dec 1840 aged 16. Elizabeth Murrow his mother-in-law d 18 Apr 1835 aged 99. also of said William McKay, Barrack Serjeant, Ayr d 23 Feb 1850 aged 71. and of his youngest dau Charlotte d at Irvine 11 Feb (1850) aged.......

also Ayr Auld Kirk, these McJannets:

In loving memory of James and Agnes McJanet.... (This appears to be the top of the stone belonging to the base remaining in position 99- ed)

(The entry for no 99 is:"Erected by their niece M J D Andrew. (All that remains of this stone is the plinth and on cross referencing with the early 20th cent. transcription it would appear that the main part of the stone is now to be found on the small granite cross at inscription no 13 - McJanet - ed)")

In memory of Henry Cowan d at Bombay 22 Nov 1819 aged 50. also Margaret McJannet his wife d 18 Oct 1840 aged 67. also of their dau Elizabeth d 20 Jun 1854 aged 48.

I have looked up Hendrie - re a Young/Hendrie grave- in Newton on Ayr, Ayr Auld Kirk, Ayr Cem, and Wallacetown with no sign of your Margaret and John.

I will go through the Youngs and Smiths later - there are rather a lot of them.

Ayr Cemetary opended in 1862.  The other places are churchyards, so a lot earlier.  I think the church at Wallacetown was built around 1835.   I don't know when they stopped being used for burials. Ayr Auld Kirk was built in the 1650's

Hi Julieann
I wonder if I may impose on your generosity. I seek the final resting place of John McCREADIE who died 2nd August 1879, onboard Ayr Steam Tug Boat No. 1, three-quarters of a mile from Ayr Harbour. He married Margaret NELSON on 9th June 1871 at The Manse, Newton(-on-Ayr?). His parents were John and Isabella (m.s. WELSH) McCREADIE of Ballantrae.

Kindest regards.

Many thanks Julieann for your efforts on my behalf. Even so, NOT finding his resting place helps narrow down where he CAN be. He may have been taken, by his father, back to his Parish of Birth (Ballantrae) for burial as was the custom of the time.

I believe Ballantrae burial records are held by Girvan Registration Office but can't figure out to contact them. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Julie,

I live in Melbourne, Australia and its a long swim to the west coast of Scotland!

I'm trying to get ANYTHING on a James JACKSON and his wife Margaret MILLAR. They were both born around 1779 so would probably have died about 1830-1850. I thought that they were both born at Newton-on-Ayr, but can't find any proof of that. Their youngest daughter, Agnes, appears to have been born/christened there in November, 1807.

I believe that you'r having really nice weather up there. Wish I could be there to experience it.

Best Wishes,

Tom.

Many thanks julieann yes these belong to me - these two McBrides are the eldest and youngest sons of Hugh Alexander & Agnes McBride.  This is brilliant.

I don't suppose if anywhere in your lists there is a Wilhelmina Whyte/white nee Taylor married to a William white.  He died Glasgow 1863  and was a widower in 1861 living with his daughter.  In 1851 he and Wilhelmina were in Ayr but I haven't been able to trace her death, don't even know whether she died prior to 1855.  I appreciate it is a bit of a long shot.  Thanks again for the two McBrides.

Hi Julianne1,

If you wouldn't mind, the families seemed to have stayed round Ayr at least until 1851.

Hi Julie

I am also looking for McBrides. I see you have checked St Quivox & Wallacetown. Is it possible to check the others, especially Newton on Ayr? I am specifically looking for a John McBride who died between 1851-1856. I can't locate his death on SP.

Any other McBrides you find would be appreciated :)

Thank you very much

Hi Julie,
Could you please look up Fullarton Dick (wife Christian Gray) for me.
Fullarton was alive in 1824, but had disappeared for the 1841 census.
His last known address was St Quivox.

Love your cat.

Cheers from Perth Australia

Hi Janice,
Its wonderful that people will go to so much trouble to help.

Correct name but wrong Fullarton.
I suspect that he is "my" fullarton's son.

Fullarton Dick married Christian Gray, 1799. I suspect that, Christian died soon after the birth of John Gray Dick in 1819. Subsequently Fullarton married Magdalene Wilson resulting in the birth of Fullarton jnr 1821/1822. Unfortunately I have no proof, but ages, dates and places indicate that this is what happened.

I was hoping that a MI might have include Christian Gray and the fact that she died in 1819.

Many thanks              Ian

Hi Julieann1,

Don't need a look-up but hope you can answer a question.

Is there a MI or booklet that tells where and when people were buried
after 1900??

Have death certificates from Scotlandspeople where
relatives died that were living at Newton-on-Ayr or Ayr but are not
listed in any MI booklet. Positive that some are buried in Wallacetown
Cemetery but how to I find out?

Any help or suggestions as where to look or others to ask would be
greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Glen

Hello julieann1
Trying to find a death for Joseph Ewing/Ewings/Euen/Ewan.  He was living at Main Rd, Whitletts, Newton on Ayr, 30 Mar 1851 census and was listed as deceased on his daughter Jean's, 16 Oct 1861 marriage.  His wife Margaret Glendinan/Glendinning Ewing, daughters Janet, Ann and granddaughter Jean Crawford were living at Woodfield, Prestwick Rd, Newton on Ayr, 7 Apr 1861 census.  Margaret is shown as a widow.  Could find no record on Scotlands People of his death.  Hopefully something in your records.
Thanks for looking.

Hi Julieann1
I have them on the 1841 census, both aged 39.   I am guessing they may have died  sometime circa 1851-1861.

Hi Sculley,
I have not managed to find any details for James Stewart's father at this stage.    If you have details of your James Stewarts marriage, children etc I'd be happy to check & see if they are related to my James.

Hi,

Would you be able to look up Michael McLoughlan/McLachlan/McLaughlang etc.  in the original Ayr Cemetery.

His wife was Agnes McLachlan nee McArthur and she died in 1866.

Children:

Michael
John
James
Elizabeth
Agnes

I think Michael died between 1841 and 1851 if that helps.

Thanks and fingers crossed!

Cheers

Would it be possible to look up Sarah Park Wilson - born 1811 died about 1842.  I believe she was buried in the New Cumnoch Cemetery, Ayr.  Unfortunately, this is all the information I can provide.  I would appreciate any help - this one is my brick wall.

I'm looking for the family grave of William Young at Beith Cemetery. I don't know the date of his death, but I'm guessing about 1840 to 1870. Can you help please

Hi,

Trying to reach Retsina and Kb0fhp if your still interested. Haven't been on here for sometime so hope I'm doing this right.

I live in the US so don't have direct contact, however, to find cemeteries in Scotland in general or registrars that hold information. I use a website, https://www.nrscotland.gov.uk/files/registration/reglist.pdf

You just have to find the area you want to search, for instance, Old Cumnock Cemetery is listed under East Ayrshire, not sure about Beith, maybe North Ayrshire. First check to make sure which function they do. In the far right column it will list Manuel, Registration only, or Multi-function.
Try for Multi-function first, and if this isn't available try one of the others but explain what you are after and if they will forward or sent you the correct address.

Good luck,
oorwill44
