Title: Change of email address
Post by: Andcarred on Tuesday 25 March 08 09:23 GMT (UK)
Hi,

I apologise in advance if the answer to this question is somewhere, but I did look and couldn't find any instructions.   How do I notify of a change in my email address? ??? ???

Hi Andcarred,

I think you can change it via your profile > membership related settings  :)

Help! I can't change my email address!

I went into Profile > Membership Related Settings, changed my existing email address for my new one, entered my password where it asks for "Current Password", and clicked [Change Profile]. It looked like it had accepted the new email (it's in the "Email:" box). However, "Current Password:" is now in red.

When I clicked on "Membership Related Settings" again it's still showing my old email address.

Re-entering my password when "Current Password:" goes red and clicking  [Change Profile] again doesn't help. I even logged out and logged back in just to check that I hadn't forgotten my password!

Any ideas?  ???

P.S. I'm using Firefox 3

A bit more info on the problem. I get exactly the same results with Firefox 3 in safe mode, Internet Explorer 8, and Opera 9.6 - so it doesn't appear to be a browser problem

I get the same problem if I type rubbish as the current password - so it looks as if it's simply not accepting my current password

I know I'm typing my current password correctly - yes, I could have mis-typed once, maybe twice, but three times is pushing it, and I've tried several times: the password I type logs me in okay, but isn't accepted on the "Membership Related Settings" page.

Maybe it's something to do with special characters in the password (i.e. !"£$%^&*()+{}:@~<>?[];'#,./ etc...) ?

The problem was 99% certainly (never 100%  ;) ) special characters in the password.

I used the "Forgotten Password" link on the login page to reset my password. With the new special-character-free password I successfully changed my email address on the first attempt.

Maybe one of your website techies could check that out - I'd guess that the "Membership Related Settings" page doesn't like one of these characters in the password

My guess would be the ampersand...

Cheers,

Does your old e-mail addy still work nonetheless, Kali?

If so, you could use this, maybe?
