Hello Everybody,
I'm new to this and I need help to find any details of my Great Great Grandad Thomas Stephens who was a shopkeeper in Church Street, Kington, Hereford in 1840.
May have been born in 1802?
He had a son (my Great Grandad) Richard born in 1835 in Kington.
Also has anyone got any pictures of Church St Kington.
Thanks very grateful for any help.
Peter

Hello.
Which property in Church Street are you looking for a picture of? Also are you looking for an old picture or a modern photograph? Because Kington isn't that far away from me.

In the 1858 Casseys Directory of herefordshire he is down as a shop keeper in Church Street Kington, but not specified what sort of shop.
Do you know what number he was at from any of your researches ?

Hi, I think I still have this imformation somwhere, I will have to wade through all my paperwork and dig it out. As there was no reply I assumed you already had the information. I wil go and hunt through my discs to find the pics. I waill get back to ASAP.

I have photos & also view about 1900. I met a decendant stanton stephens in a shop in ludlow. They moved grocers in about 1900 to ludlow 20 miles away.My gran was ada charlotte stephens richard was her grandad.richard married a butchers daughter isabella meyrick from presteigne in marylebone london 1860 & raised children in kington

I am descended from Richard stephens son of Thomas. The shop was in 39 church st. I have a n old photo of it as Harts store. I think its a late Victorian re build as old photos show a tudor type building. However the museum has a good picture of kington with stephens store about 100 feet further down street. Stephens continued up until 1970s as grocers in nearby Ludlow where I met Stanton stephens descendant of Thomas a few years ago. Stephens was a great family of Radnorshire & were mostly solicitors. I think they were grocers first & filled time in back room making umbrellas. This generation still sell books.. Bernard.. my gran was ada stephens
