Hi Maz1
I have a Louisa Brown born c1841 in Bow Common, Middlesex.
She married an Edwin Richard Plant and went on to have several children (at least eight). Mary, the oldest was born c1867 in Poplar.
Must confess I haven't explored this branch very much at moment (trying to track down who was Edwin's father at moment - and that's giving me enough problems ???)
Still, if you think this Louisa might fit in with any of your family let me know and I'll see what else I've got on her.

I'm just trawling through the 1851 southwark looking for Bryant's and variations and if I see any Brown's I will lob your way!
I'm actually several thousand pages in, so would have missed many Brown's?
I wont be looking for any specific Brown...just any Brown
hope they assist in your research
Regards
Bryant

Hi Maz
my gt grandfather, John Brown, was born in Lambeth in 1853.son of Stephen & Louisa Brown (nee Baker). I found him on the 1881 census living at Feltham with wife Mary Ann(nee Egelton, born in Stanwell c1854), sons John(Stephen?), Albert Edward (my grandfather), William,Emily Louisa (the only girl). On the 1891 census they were living in Kingston but only William and Emily were still with them. However George, and the twins Harold & Walter had arrived. By 1901 John (the father) had disappeared and Mary,Emily and the twins were living at 3,St.Saviours Rd., Croydon.I have been unable to find out what happened to the husband. I knew Emily up until she died and according to my g'father the twins emigrated to Australia after the WW1.
There is lots more to come but I feel that here is enough to find out if 'we have a connection' ?
Hopeful - Gamor
-
hi
I cant see a connection as yet -- this is a rough on my Brown's
Grandparents - Charles James Brown born 1900 Southwark and Edith Ricks born 1900 Wandsworth
g,grandparents - Charles Henry Brown born 1877 Holborn and Annie Farrell born 1876 Camberwell
g,g,grandparents - James Brown born 1833 London, Middlesex !!!? amd Sophia Knight 1836 Middlesex London.
g,g,g,grandfather George - no other info
I have children for James, and the two Charles' but no other children for George as yet. So I suppose theres always a chance yours could join on to one of them?
Have you seen all the notes Bryant has kindly found on the Browns?

Anyone interested in Browns in North Yorkshire and South Durham at all? Especially those who are grocers/ironstone miners?

Has anyone found any Hare-Browns in their family tree?
I've just received a copy of the marriage certificate of Joseph James Hare Brown dated 25th December 1892 in St George East. Until receipt of the certificate I wasn't sure whether the name Hare came from Joseph's mother but his father's name is given as Robert Samuel Hare Brown which takes it back another generation at least.
Joseph's mother was Sarah but I haven't been able to find a marriage date of his parents, Sarah was born in St GE, Samuel in St Lukes.
Someone on Rootschat did a 1851 look up for Samuel and found a Samuel born in St Lukes living with his parents James Brown (of Southwark) and Ann. None of the children, at least on the census, have the name Hare but most of Samuel's children were given it as a second or third name.

Hello Flour
If you place a lookup for the Hare Brown's through the census years you should pick up where the added name came from?
Provide all the info you have from the cert/census and you will soon get results............place the lookup in the London lookup section
Regards
Bryant

Hi Bryant
Thank you for you reply I'll have a go but I've found that the name Hare crops up every now and again, example on Free BMD but not on family search :)
If you ever see the two names together can you let me know please. With so many Brown's I'm reluctant to purchase certificates without firm dates etc., I can only go one step at a time - the next one will be Joseph's birth certificate which will give me his mother's maiden name and then hopefully narrow the search for his parents wedding certificate.

Flour
You need the 1901 first with Joseph J Hare Brown aged approx ? (what was his age on the marriage cert) and his wife's christian name and her maiden name and age.
His father Robert Samuel Hare Brown had what as an occupation and the cert doesn't say he is deceased does it?
Who are the witnesses at the marriage?
Where was they living in 1892 ?
You'll be amazed what can be achieved even with a name such as Brown...........whoops.... Hare Brown ;D
Bryant
-
Thank you once again, it's true, there are a lot of things I can follow up on the wedding certificate.
I've just been looking at some of your previous postings about Brown's from Southwark and there may be some relations there, Robert/Samuel Hare Brown's father James was from Southwark - perhaps - I must learn a little patience.

And believe it or not...............I have no interest in Brown's ??? I just started collecting them whilst looking for my elusive Bryant's and placing them on this post................
I got carried away somewhat........but i'm sure some of the info would have been useful for someone out there?
Bryant
-
I hadn't realised that you weren't a Brown, but I do live in the Medway Towns which include Chatham so if I come across, was it Buckley (from memory) I will let you know.
PS noted one of the witnesses is named Ware which possibly confirms Sarah Ann Ware married Robert (Samuel Hare) Brown in East London 1865, I have found the elusive marriage!
warm regards

I know this is an old chain now. but I have recently come across an ancestor that is mentioned in some of these census extracts, and wondered whether anyone out there has any connection?
Ellen Brown, daughter of John Brown. She was born about 1829 in Rotherhithe and married James Harvey in 1848.

Hi
Do you have any further information on this Richard Brown please?
He is the brother of my 3Xgreat grandad!
Chris
-
oooh!!! Quite a lot!! His wife and a fair few of their 11 children.
Can you tell me a bit more about your 3x grandad? He wouldn't possibly be the father of Burdett Lambton Brown would he?
best wishes
Ruth

Just ignore that last post! My Browns are all from Co Durham.

Marian (Maz1), I know this is old, but I have a grandmother Nellie esther Brown (nee Hagger) from Clerkenwell/Holborn born 1891, and married Leonard Brown in 1915. My father was born 1921. Is this relevant to you at all?
