Hi Kate :)

I can only find one Margaret bpt. in Ettrick around that time with a mother Christian:

9 Sept 1744 to George Bryden and Christian Portus

The record for her might not have survived or she wasn't baptised in the Church of Scotland  :-\  However, I can't find a record of a Christian Linton at all.

There is a record for a Walter Bryden - bpt. 15 August 1710. Parents James Bryden and Marion Lintoun

In the time frame there is a Walter Bryden having children baptised with  Janet Beattie,  Helen McLennan, Margaret Laidlaw and Margaret Tait in Ettrick.

Is it possible that your source has been confused with the generations?

Best regards

Gadget

Hi Kate,

Don't know if this family will fit in with yours or not, just wondered if you had any of the names in your line.

My 5g grandparents were James Brydon/Bryden and Euphemia Laidlaw. They married in 1794 in Ettrick(so perhaps born late 1760's early 1770's).
I have 7 children all born Ettrick between 1794 and 1808 including a Christian.

Janet 1794, Elizabeth 1796, Isabella 1798 , Agnes1803, Christian 1805, Robert 1805 (twin) and James 1808.

I thought perhaps Robert might be his fathers name but there is potential for another child to have been born between Isabella and Agnes.

My 4g grandmother was above Isabella who married Andrew Turnbull.
