The only information I have is spotty at the best, here are some of my family ancestors names:
Ellen (Nelly) Stewart (son James)
Richard Alexander Taws (son Jacky Taws)
Jamesina Stewart (nee McGuire) dob 1904
James Stewart dob 199 dod 1956.
Any help would be apprecieated.

Welcome to Rootschat..... you will find lots of people here who are very happy to help with your search.
I checked out Free BMD ... which you can find on the net at www.freebmd.org.uk and found a birth for a Richard Arthur TAWS in Tynemouth Northumberland 1879 and a marriage for a Richard Arthur P TAWS to and Ellen STEWART in 1903 also Tynemouth Northumberland.
Using this I checked the UK Census and found :-

Elizabeth Married 44 Charwoman Malton Yorkshire
Richard TAWS Son Unmarr 13 Scholar North Shields Northumberland
William TAWS Son Unmarr 10 Scholar North Shields Northumberland
Edward D TAWS Son Unmarr 6 Scholar North Shields Northumberland
From this it seems that Richard had at least 2 brothers, William and Edward, both born in the same place as himself. It also seems that their mother Elizabeth may have married a second time to a MARRETT?
I will keep looking and see what I can find out for you

Not sure where the surname MARRETT came from, but I can find a marriage for an Elizabeth J TAWS to a William FORSYTH in Tynemouth 1896. The 1901 Census shows :-

This looks like it might be the family in 1881, this gives a few more siblings and a father this time... still no idea about Elizabeth J's surname given in 1891 though...

It looks like Elizabeth Jane was flexable with her first name -- either Elizabeth or Janes was used. Maybe Jane here to avoid confusion with their eldest daughter who is also Elizabeth Jane.

Revisited the 1891 Census and it is actually Elizabeth J BARRETT not MARRETT. Not that it helps much as there is no marriage that I can find between a TAWS and a BARRETT, and anyway when Elizabeth Jane marries FORSYTH it is as TAWS not BARRETT.
I'm confused on this one....... :-\ :-\

Karenlee, thanks for all your help with this, I think you hit on something with the Richard Taws and Ellen Stewart, I was give information by on of my aunts (she is very old and fogets a lot) that this was the name of her Grandparents and that Ellen also had a son named James who was my Grandfather, he married a lady called Jamesina McGuire (dob 1904 unknown dod), my Granfather was born (out of wedlock before Ellen married Richard) in 1899 and died in 1956.

my maiden name is Sharon stewart I am from north shields my dad was called james stewart he was born 1933

I have checked the marriage registration codes and found that the marriages of both Ellen and Jamesina took place in either non conformist or registry offices as they appear under 'W' codes.
Might these people have been Roman Catholic or other denomination than Church of England?

Seems to match for both the married name and maiden name of your Jamesina.
We aren't allowed to do look ups in the 1939 register, but a free search shows James and Jamesina (wrongly transcribed as Jawesina - reported) at 51 Oakwood Ave, plus there are another 7 people in that household whose records are closed.
