I have recently found out that my paternal grandmother was adopted. We know she was born in Rhyl (sp) Wales, and who she was adopted by, and her birth date. However, the name on her birth certificate seems to be a made up one as we can find no record of her at all.
Does anybody have any suggestions please?

Adoptions that took place before 1926 were not legalised and were usually arranged privately through a solicitor or the family doctor. No official documents were required so it can be virtually impossible to trace natural parents of adoptees.
I have come up against this problem myself when I discovered that my father who was born in 1923 was adopted and although I have his birth certificate I have been unable to find any record of the adoption.
Is there any relative still living that may be able to help?
