Hi,
I am trying to I may find a trace of My Great Grandfather Richard James May, of Tregony in the 1881 census.
He was born 1872, son of William May and his wife Jane Miners.
William and Jane are on 1871 census in Tregony, with older children, William Henry and Malinda. Address 39 Fore Street.
In 1891 census the family is also in Tregony, with additional family members born after 1881, including 18 year old Richard James May. Address Agin Court.
However, I can not find any trace of the family members in 1881,( having tried various search options). I wonder if any one can offer any suggestions on where I may be able to find the family in 1881.
Thanks
Janet

Hi
COCP transcription has 1891 address as AGAR'S COURT
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kayhin/1826a.html
and Malinda is Militia which may add to some of your search probs
Wow, I've tried multiple sites that have the 1881 and I see your prob. Tried just to pick up Melinda/Melitia or even Letitia..nothing..couldn't see anywhere in England
They seem such a stable family..that Tragony is where they should be
Having transcribed alot of census I have found the 1881 the most full of errors, but the COCP one doesn't have them either
...Surely they wouldn't have gone overseas for such a short period..but who knows....otherwise you may have to say the enumerator has missed them out??? Can't say another surname surely as have tried just by first name....Surely MAY can't be spelt to many different ways??
Hope someone can solve it
Bye

Hi
I have searched for over an hour and cannot see them . There is also no passenger list for them and they are not in Wales :-\
How could the whole family dissappear ? I have also gone page by page through Tregon(e)y and cannot see them ....
ummmm .... a mystery!

Deb and Althea,
Thanks for your replies - I can rest easy that I haven't been missing anything obvious.
I don't know how they all vanish off a census. I can usual find missing ancestors even if miss transcribed, aged differently etc - but not this time.
???
I have Richards Birth certificate and full family history paper trail from then on except for the 1881 census and it is just one of those niggly brickwalls I would like to solve to have a complete History.
Best wishes and back to more searching

Althea, and all
Williams wife was Jane Miners born 1847 in Tregony.
The whole family is as follows :
William May born 1840 - Tregony
Jane Miners born 1847 - Tregony
William Henry born 1866 -Tregony. Later added Miners to his name.
Malinda born 1870 - Tregony. Emigrated to USA in 1889.
Richard James born 1872 -Tregony
Mary Jane" Janie" born 1877. - Tregony
Matilda "Tillie" born 1879. - Tregony
Annie born 1882 - born Tregony
Katie born 1887 - Tregony.
David Charles 1888 - Tregony.
From my notes Richard James, Mary Jane, Matilda, were all christened in Tregony in April 1880.
Which as you say does not leave much opportunity for them to have gone abroad, and I can only assume they were for some reason left off the census.
regards and thanks
