Hi Liz,

Again, I'm not at all sure what you are hoping to find about Jane (HUGHES) JONES.
Or where.

In Australia or elsewhere?

There is no census information for Australia.

Easily accessible electoral roll information for Australia is only from 1901-1936.

Do you know anything at all about Jane prior to the death of 1st husband James JONES in 1879? Do you have her death?  Do you know where the JONES children were born?

If you don't, then obtaining the certificates of her two marriages - to NORDSTEDT and to FIELD - and/or the birth certificate(s) of either or both of her NORDSTEDT children should give further information which might help (e.g. Jane's birthplaces).  The events are listed on the NSW BDM site at:
http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/
and can be ordered from them.

Good luck,

JAP

I now see that the IGI (SW Pacific) has further submitted entries re the births of the JONES children - in the Bright area of Victoria.

Official records of these can be found in the Victorian BDM.
You can download one or more of the birth certificates from the Vic BDM site at:http://online.justice.vic.gov.au/bdm/home

They should give Jane's age and birthplace - IF this is what you are wanting to find.

JAP
PS: And now I see, from the 1866 marriage entry that Jane's birthplace was Liverpool and James's was Armagh.  Do you have that certificate?

I'm still puzzled as to what it is you hope to find  ;)

Are you seeking

a) information on Jane HUGHES/JONES/NORSTEDT/FIELD before her marriage to James JONES?
or
b) information on her after her marriage to George FIELD?
or
c) both?

Either way, it seems that we need to know Jane's approximate year of birth, and the names of her parents.

Do you have that information?  If so, could you please post it?

If you don't already have that information, then there seems to be no alternative but to purchase appropriate NSW or Victorian certificates as suggested earlier ...

Unfortunately no - would need an email address to send it to you.  I may not be able to do this for a couple of weeks as I travel to Mildura on business irregularly!  I have promised a friend to photograph a couple of graves for her and could do yours at the same time.  I will find out from the Cemetery Trust the location etc.

Will be in touch.

Hello Liz,

Death certificates can sometimes be unreliable - the information relies on what the informant knows.  I hope there is useful information on it.  You mention 'sending for' the information - but Victorian certificates can be downloaded immediately online ...

The 1866 marriage certificate would still be worth buying (as I suggested earlier) as the information would have been provided by the individual herself - and Jane HUGHES would likely have known her father's occupation and her mother's maiden surname ...

Not only that but it would 'kill two birds with one stone' given that you are still after information about her first husband James JONES on another of your threads at:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,293066

Incidentally, on FreeBMD there are some marriages of an Isaac HUGHES in the Liverpool area around the right time.

JAP
PS: If only you'd mentioned in your initial post here that you thought that Jane (HUGHES) JONES/NORDSTEDT/FIELD had died in Victoria ;)

Perhaps Mary Ann was a pre-nuptial child of Jane's with Samuel NORDSTEDT before she married him in 1888 (or even with a Mr KLUKOWSKY)?

From the NSW BDM:
Mary Anne JONES, no father named, mother Jane, born 1887, Young

Hi Liz & Cando,

Annie Nordstedt isn't buried at Mildura.  She is buried at Burwood Cemetery, Section 6, Church of England, Grave Number 377.

Jane Hughes daughter Mary Ann was born before Jane married Samuel Nordstedt.  We don't know whether he was Mary Ann's father or not, but she did use his surname.  John Klukosky was Mary Ann's partner.  They never married as he had a wife in New Zealand who left him for another man(John was Catholic).  Unknown to John, his first wife had him declared dead after 7 years so she could marry the man she had ran off with - she had had a child with him.   John had moved to Australia by then and couldn't be contacted.

How do I know this?  Mary Ann was my great grandmother.

If there is anything else you want to know, then contact me Liz.

Sharon.

That's very interesting!

I remember spending quite some time on this puzzle about 6 months ago so it's great to find that progress is being made.

  Hi Liz,
I've just found your message. SAMUEL ADOLPHUS NORDSTED was my grandfather.
I have heard LOTS about ANNIE MARIE CLAIRE from my mum, (Samuel's daughter) and Annies niece.
From Anne, in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.

Hi Anne

You posted some information - but you accidentally sent it to the Moderators, instead of putting it on the boards.  You said:

Hi. Jane Jones parents were James Jones and Jane Hughes II. Her parents were Jane Hughes I and Isaac Hughes. At least this is what I have on my Family Tree.

I hope this helps your conversation.

Kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

Hi all

An old thread that has been dead for a while now....

Anyway, I though I would look for this Samuel Nordstedt here in Sweden.

I found a Samuel Adolph Nordstedt born in Stockholm 28 June 1837. He was in a family in Umeå as an adopted child. The father of this family is C. Gabriel Ruckman (very similar to the mother's name Ruckinen which could be a misinterpretation).
He became a sailor and he is in the sailor database and was written in the "missing persons book" around 1872. Meaning he disappeared from the parish.

This could be him as I noticed on a couple of trees on Ancestry that his birth date varies. I would also like to add that the minister had written that he could have been born 1841.

Dear Ian
I've just come across your posting from March 2015 and I can't thank you enough.  This explains the lack of information I have about Samuel Nordstedt.  I am a cousin of Sharon whose thread appears here, too.
This has helped me enormously moving forward.
Thank you

Hi Ian
I ordered a copy of Samuel's death certificate and his mother's name is Maria Ruckman.  From the evidence I've gathered from Australian certificates over the decades (which is very little), I have his birth year anywhere between 1837 and 1843.

Samuel's Naturalization certificate dated 10 January 1883 records his age as 44, that he arrived in Australia in 1866 and had resided in the Colony for 16 years.  That in itself doesn't add up.  If he was 44 at Naturalization, then his birth year is 1839 and arrival is 1867 (maybe he wasn't good at maths - I'm the same).

Samuel's Marriage Certificate from 1888 only has his name and no further details of age, family etc.

Samuel's Death Certificate dated 26 August 1891 definitely states that Maria Ruckman is his mother and that his father was 'Unknown'.

I visited the archives in Stockholm a couple of years ago, there was an entry for, I think, a tax record.  It was in the SSA - Register till mantalsbocker 1800-1875.  It read:
Namn:  Nordstedt, S
Titel: Landtburkselev
Fodd:
Ar: 1854
Ovrigt:
Distrikt:  Staden sodra
Hansvisning: 229

I also found a death record which read:
Begravda i Sverige
Ruckman, Maria
Froken
Begravd 13/3 1896
Stockholms norra begravningsplats, avd. 1,kv.9,n4. 349 (urna, nr 1 i graven)
Graven upplaten i evardlig tid (upplatelse nr 1)
Stockholms kyrkogardsforvaltning (Stockholms stad, Stockholms lan)

I have the names of some Ruckmans in Stockholm in the 1800s, but none of them are C.Gabriel Ruckman.  There is a Maria Ruckman born 22 January 1810, Christened 25 January 1810 in Jakob Och Johannes, Stockholm.  Father's name:  Johan Gustaf Ruckman.  Mother's name:  Maria Christina Frank.  I'm hoping that this is Samuel's mother.

I have Johan Gustaf and Maria Christina marrying on 19 April 1808 in Hovforsamlingen, Stockholm.
I have Johan Gustaf's birth date:  1 December 1783, Christened:  14 December 1783 in Jakob Och Johannes, Stockholm.
Father's name:  Peter Ruckman
Mother's name:  Maria Christina Friberg

I was thinking that C. Gabriel Ruckman might be a relative of Johan's?  I would appreciate any thoughts you might have.

Kind regards
Diana

Hi

The Nordstedt, S on the mantalslängd you found isn't your Samuel unfortunately.

Carl Gabriel Ruckman was born in Habo Parish in Västergötland and I couldn't find any evidence that he was related Johan Gustav Ruckman.

There wasn't much to find for Maria Ruckman unfortunately. I found her original birth record but couldn't go on from there.

I noticed in the Household records from Umeå that he was Carl Gabriel Ruckman's foster son and after digging around I have found Samuel Adolf's birth record. The date coincides with the one in Umeå apart from the fact that it was his baptizing date. Born 23 June 1837 and baptized 28 June 1837. His mother was Maria Henricsman. He was born in Katrina Parish Stockholm.

Here is his birth record and a snippet from Umeå as a seaman:
