Hi everyone, it's me again looking for more help with my wonderful Smiths!! 8) 8)
I am looking for some info on my great uncle and his family if possible.
I have so far
Albert Smith, born approx 1880 to William Henry Smith and Charlotte nee Golding, not sure if he was born in VIC or NSW
Albert married a Nellie Butcher, I am not sure when or where, but Nellie was from the Sea Lake area and they lived in Chillingollah Vic during WW1, so I assume they got married in Vic.
Albert and Nellie had 2 sons
Ron who married Nancy ? I believe Ron died in 1969, I assume in NSW but not sure
Ken who married Clare? Ken Lived in Leeton NSW for many years, his wife moved to Sydney after his death.
Albert & Nellie lived at Condobolin NSW, then Happy Valley, via Parkes. Albert died at Parkes NSW.
I would love to find any info on Albert, Nellie or their boys. I have no knowledge of them at all, except the above. I have a letter written to the war office by Albert after his brothers death in WW1 and would love to know more about him.
I would especially like to find Alberts birth, his marriage date, and his sons births.
I would appreciate any help anyone can give me.
Thanks
Lones :D

Hi Cando & Jenn
Sorry for the late reply, I am at work and can only log on occasionally....
Thank you both for so much info, I now have second names for both boys, excellent. What a great result. I am very pleased with all this info. I shall get the certs to get the exact dates.
Cando I don't know, family story says he died in Parkes, but I have no proof of that, it could be him. He definitely died somewhere, he is no longer with us :-\ :D. Do you know where Hornsby is?
Thank you both again, brilliant!!
Lones 8) 8)
PS
Hi Jenn
Our posts crossed. Thank you. I have most of the other children, though not the dates of their marraiges, just their names and partners. Albert was the eldest so I thought I would start with him. But if you've got lots of time ...................... ;) ;D ;D ;D (just kiddin')
Cheers

Hornsby is a Northern Suburb of Sydney - a little distant from Parkes - there is a large Adventist Hospital not too far away - that used to be a Sanatorium (I think). My Dad was in hospital there in the 1960s - or your man could have been visiting relatives or ???

Cando
I think you need a new CD/DVD drive :( - My dvd player did similar - it had to go
Trish

Thanks Trish
I will have to check with the elderly remaining relatives to see if they know about this. I doubt it though, I seem to be telling them things lately ::) ;D. Oh well someone might remember.
I am heading to Cowra soon as an elderly relative has a trunk, rumoured to be full of photographs and things. I am trying no to get my hopes to high, but there is meant to be a picutre of Albert and Nellies wedding in it, among other family treasures. So fingers crossed I shall see what they looked like soon
I am very excited

Hi Cando & Jenn
Thank you so much, This is wonderful and so quick. Yippee!!! The sons marriage and Alberts death. Yes Jenn I think that is it. 1957, I never knew that, he was one of my Dads favourite uncles, but I wasn't born until 1958, so probably why I don't remember him. Thank you so much, this is just great.
Yes Cando I am really excited about going, but every time I arrange it, something happens. So I have booked annual leave in July and I shall get there then I hope. THe guy who has the trunk can't use a computer. let alone a scanner, so I shall go myself and hope on old letters etc too. I know there was a letter from Alberts brother in there once, written from the front lines of WW!. I have a copy of it, it is brilliant, just brilliant. i can't wait to see the rest
Thank you all again, this is all wonderful stuff. I shall type it all into my records when I get home tonight
Cheers to you all
Lones
-
Thank you Cando
I just noticed the other marriage, I shall be scrolling up and down tonight to make sure I don't miss anything else. This is excellent, I can't tell you all how thrilled I am with all this info ;D ;D ;D
Thank you it's really brilliant
Lones

Lones I wonder where Albert was buried as I have searched the Parkes Shire Burial register and no Albert

Now to have found his grave would have rounded off the info nicely. ;D

I think you have all done brilliantly as it is. I cannot believe how much more info I have now. Thank you very, very much. I shall buy a couple of the certs and see what else I can find from them
Thank you all, you have made my day. If I find a photo of Albert and Nellies marraige in the trunk, i shall post it so you can see them too, just for interests sake
a very happy Lones ;D

Thank you again Cando :D :D
This really could be him 8) 8), I shall contact them to see how much they charge for a copy of the obituary. It should list his parents and children, this could be a real lead for me in finding the living relatives. Thank you very much. I shall let you know how I get on with it
Cheers again, wonderful stuff
Lones

Hello there Lones
the Ryerson doesn't charge persay they do urge folk to make a donation, you just have to register and then post your request and wait to see if some kind soul does the lookup for you. However be warned you will get replies to all postings that is how their system works, I use a separate email addy for them otherwise my main one gets too much mail every day.
regards Jenn
-
Thanks for the info Jenn ;D
I haven't heard of them before, but will take your suggestion and register and donate. I only have one email address at home, so not much choice there...
Thank you

And finally
Australian Electoral Rolls
NSW Commonwealth - Calare
NSW State - Lachlan
Sub district - Trundle
1930
SMITH Albert Gillinbine Farmer
SMITH Helen Eleanor Gillinbine HD
1936
SMITH Albert Hillsdale Trundle Farmer
SMITH Helen Eleanor Gillinbine HD
Perhaps Albert had to alter or re-register and am wondering if this is possibly the name of their property.
I also wondered if perhaps Albert was buried at Trundle - it is probably in the PARKES district for NSW bdm's. Just a thought. Forbes FHS have burial records for the Trundle cemetery.
Cheers
cando...who must do some work...proper work ;D ;D

Hi Cando
I didn't see the rest of your message before, so both son's are dead too. That is sad, I was hoping one would still be around. I shall follow up what i can and see if the obit brings new names and relatives
Thank you
Lones
Just caught your last post, thank you again. I noticed that Albert and Nellie weren't on the electrol at Chillingollah in 1931 so they must have moved around then to NSW. I will contact the FHS in FOrbes and see if they can helpo me
Cheers for all this info. I shall get writers cramp putting in all in my records, there is so much of it.... :D ;D 8) Thank you both heaps
Lones :)

Hi Cando,
No, turn of phrase really, I should have said typing cramp. I use Family trees quick and easy. I was given another one, which I think is better, but when I went to transfer half the data disappeared and I didn't know which bits, so rather that troll through it all, I went back to the old program. i know it's all in there somewhere, and I don't want to lose any of it....
So I should have said I will be tying all night. I really am happy with all the stuff I have gotten today and am very grateful to you all
Cheers

Hi Sue
Thank you for that. I haven't heard of either place.
I appreciate you looking for me, thank you
Lones

Do you have Charlotte Golding's details?
regards Jenn
-
Hi Jenn
Yes Charlotte was born in Tassie under the name Charlotte Brown on 15 Mar 1858 at River Leven. her mother was a convict (Briget O'Brien) and her dad was George Brown. The family moved to Victoria and changed their name to Golding. Charlotte and two of her sisters names are on the Queens orphanage list at one stage, but I am not sure if they ever went there or the family moved to Victoria at that time.
So yes thank you I do have a lot on Charlotte, but we can never have it all can we......? I know that she also died in Hay in 1903, but her grave is not marked and sadly the cemetery records have been destroyed.
Her husband then moved his family back to Waitchie and raised them there
Cheers for asking Jenn, and if you have found anything I do not have, i would be pleased to have it
Thanks
Lones :)

I think I should have typed the district TRUNDLE following the names Gillinbine. I think Gillinbine may have been the property name or perhaps Hundred of Gillinbine. Trundle is north west of Parkes. Travelled through the area last year.

Mornin' Cando
I did finish typing it all in last night, and still able to type this morning ;) ;D ;D. I shall ask around the family to see if anyone remembers Gillinbine. My fathers cousin is in her ninties, she is now in a home in Cowra, so I hope to visit with her when I get up there, she remembers a lot I am told, but is not that interested. I hope to get her talking if possible, her mother originally owned "the trunk" I am about to delve into.
Thanks again for all of your help

Hi LOpie
I have very little on my Great Uncle Alberts children, only the following
Albert and Nellie had two sons
Ronald Geoffrey Smith Born 1913 Sea Lake m Nancy Clare at Parkes in 1940
Kenneth Albert Smith Born 1916 Charlton Vic M Clare Cahill in Condobolin in 1945
I do not know what children the two boys had. If you find a connection, please let me know, as I would love to know what happened to them. I am happy to share my family history if we have a connection. I have nothing on a Muriel, unless she was a child of one of his sons...
Cheers

I have just been rereading this post and am still amazed at how much info I was given and the amount of research others did for me. So to update those interested, the trunk was no longer in existence when I got to Cowra, devastating news, but I did get a lot of photographs, which was awesome. I am posting the wedding photo of Albert and Nellie for those interested to see.
I think they looked beautiful, both of them... :)

Hi Loupie,
Welcome to RootsChat.
RootsChat is a family history website, we do not post or allow the posting of details of living people. You may wish to contact living people by trying to trace them through more traditional means like the phonebook etc
Good Luck with your Research!

Hi there, I know this is an older topic but hoping you get this message.
I am a direct descendant of John Thomas Smith, my great great grandfather. I came across your posts whilst doing my own family research 😊. My great grandfather was Albert Charles Benjamin Smith, I called him Poppy Smith.
I've also kind of hit a wall. I can't seem to find any more info on Thomas, John Thomas's father, except his both, death, and other son William Henry and his wife etc. it's like there is no detail or anything about him, the same with his mother and father John and Ann Smith( Eden). Hoping you get this message to hopefully fill me in 😊

Hi Chris
How wonderful that you found this post. I am very happy that we are now in contact. You will need to post more messages before I can send you a personal message and give you my email address so we can exchange information ( I am not sure if it is 2 or more posts you need). I have some but not a lot on Thomas. I am really happy to share with you. I have not been on Rootschat for a very long time, so a bit out of the current happenings. I live in Bendigo, are you in Victoria?
Cheers for now
