Hello Yonks.
The house of the Gore-Booth family. If you could ever manage to go to Sligo would be well worth a visit.
The House outside Carney in the Townland of Lissadell.
In the Dining room are large size portraits of family members and retainers. there is one with the Butler and his apron.

If you could provide a bit more information like approx. birthdate and religion of Patrick it might be easier to answer your question.

Lep and Aghadawey,
As I'm trying to find my family with out much luck I was hoping that the KILGALLON who was a "Butler" family was documented some where..
Thanks Lep for the census info as it was the 1891 that would make this chap b c 1843 and this would put him about twenty four years younger than my G/Grandfather.
To date all my KILGALLON's were R/C and all Kilgallon's connect in some way which is why I thought this angle may lead me some where.
Many Thanks
Yonks Ago.

Hello Tonks, There does appear to be quite a few Kilgallon's in that area of Sligo.
You say they are all related. Now carbury is a Barony.Lissadell is a townland in the Parish of Drumcliff.Barony Carbury
Drumcliff is a townland and a Civil Parish in the Barony of Carbury.
Why I say this is. There is a large family in the census.
Rosses Point. Drumcliff Townland. [Kilgallons]
There is one Patrick in the family.Patrick is 13 years old.
If you think it worth me giving you the whole family then I will do so.
If not then there is no point in putting it on.
Lep. :)

Hello Lep,
If you can that would be great, in the hope that I'll one day link them all together. :)
My Great Grandfather was born 1819 St John Sligo, Michael was his name and if the naming pattern was followed maybe his father was a John as Michael's first son was John.
I seem to have conflicting christian names for the Butler, either Patrick or Thomas.
Yonks Ago :) :)

Hi Yonks,
Did you have any joy with your Kilgallon at Lisadell House?
If not may I suggest contacting the owners of Lisadell House (google) as they may have some research done themselves on such matters. They have restored the house and gardens and are now open to the public again. Some other Kilgallen/on records for your collection:
Patrick Kilgallen (b.1839) m. Mary Gilgan (b.1843) in 7.2.1864 at Dromard, Sligo.
They had Ann ellena, Maria, Peter Catherine Bridget and Agnus. from 1864 -1877.......
James Kilgallen m. Bridget Gilgan at Skreen, Co. Sligo. They had Willie, Thady, and Daniel Charles from 1866 -1874.
Patrick Kilgallon (b.c.1823) m. Rosa Bruen (b.c.1825) Rosses Point, co. Sligo.
They had James Michael John Rosanna Bridget and Patrick and possibly Maria between 1849 & 1867.
These two Patricks were River Pilots in Sligo.
Hope this helps :) :)

Hi Yonks,
My Kilgallons were living in Rosses Point, Co. Sligo definately in 1849 and possibly before.
Patricius Kilgallon (b.c.1823) m. Rosa Bruen (b.c.1825) and their children:-
Jacobus b.1849
Michael b.1851
Joannes b.1852
Brigida b.1864
Patritius b.1867
Rosanna Kilgallen (note sp. change),(b.1858) m. Joseph McGowan in 1879
and possibly a Maria, but no details.
I've no further details on the family other than my maternal g.g.grandparents Patriciius & Rosa.
There were other Kilgallons living in the village at that time too who may have been related but there is no evidence to suggest so at this stage, they are:
Andreas Kilgallon m. Brigida Feeney - 9 children that I know of between 1848 - 1874
Jacobus Kilgallon m. Catherina Gillan - 3 children that i know of between 1845 - 1852
Andrew Kilgallin m.Eleanora Bruen - 4 children that I know of between 1874 & 1879
Good Luck with your search and I would appreciate if you would keep me posted and I will do likewise.

Don't know about his brothers, sisters, but he was Thomas not Patrick and he was my great grandfather. I know he definitely came from Rosses Point, probably the Lower Rosses. He worked for Sir Henry and later for Sir Joslyn and I think that his father had previously worked for Sir Robert. He would have been born in the 1850's and died in 1941.
-
Hello SilgoDub.
Wow! would you have names of your Thomas's parents? What I'm trying to do is fill in from another line to see if I can then pinpoint to my side of the KILGALLON's
My Great Grandfather Michael KILGALLON was born 1819 St John Sligo.

Hi Tu 2 Tu, Yonks Ago, very busy at the moment so do excuse delays. Unfortunately I know nothing about his siblings or parents, only his offspring, that is what I am going to try checking out in the next few months when time permits. Here's what I know at the moment. Born in Rosses Point. Died in January 1941 in his late 80's or early 90s, so born around 1851. Went to work for Sir Henry Gore Booth when a young lad, (his father may have previously worked for Sir Robert). Worked there all his life until retiring in 1930's. Married (Margaret?) Drury from Dunowney. Had three children Augusta, Kathleen (my grandmother) and one male son, I think named Thomas as well. Son and wife died at young ages. Augusta never married, my grandmother married Owen Leonard in Grange. In his retirement lived with my grandmother in Wolfe Tone St and died in January 1941. Buried in Sligo cemetery. Yonks ago, about your query, he is the first to be buried in that grave because I have the grave receipt where my father purchased it in 1941. He, his two daughters, my aunt and my parents are buried there so that won't tell you anything about his ancestory. He has to be born in Rosses Point around 1850. Is the local PP amenable to searching his records. Let me know if you come up with any leads. I won't be able to search properly until late October.
-
Hi SligoDub,
Did you get any opportunity to search more on Thomas?
Would love to hear if you did

Hi Tu2Tu,
After a long absence only getting around to my great-grandfather's parents at this stage. I know that James Kilgallon was the father of Thomas as this is shown on his marriage cert to Isabella Drury. You mentioned a James married to Catherine Gilla(e)n, in Rosses Point who had three children that you know of born between 1845 and 1852. Would you happen to have the names of these 3. There was definitely a connection between Thomas and Rosses Point.
Cheers,
SligoDub
