Like the fire, which destroyed many records in Dublin during the Easter Rising, a similar incident happened in Cork. The Carnegie Library, built in 1905, was destroyed by the forces of the British Crown who retaliated to continuing guerrilla activity by the IRA.
This incident occurred during the Troubles in Ireland in 1920.
