Can anyone tell me why I often get a reply to a PM which is just a quoted copy of what I sent? I don't think I send these to other folks, but I get a few
thanks

There is a topic on here somewhere, where this is mentioned.
I seem to recall that it was something to do with AOL users clicking on the (wrong) link in their e-mails, which results in the original PM being "returned". Usually, the actual answer follows this ....

Thanks Bob
I think I have read it somewhere before too - I should just ignore it - but then I think it maybe worth explaining - I shall no doubt carry on regardless 8)

The problem arises when you go straight to a message from an email notification. When you have read the message and decided that you want to reply the natural thing to do is to click the "reply" button expecting that you will get another screen in which to type your reply.
What most newcomers don't realize is that they should have typed their reply on this original screen. Hitting "reply" sends this copy of the original message.
It is sufficiently different from most other sites on the internet that even seasoned users occasionally forget the rootschat is different.

Thanks all - I don't use any email notifications so no problem ;D After a week on roots chat I had so many emails I turned everything off - guess I chat too much :-\ :-\

I've often wondered about that too, and I can say it isn't just newcomers who do it. ;D I'm glad I read this.
