Hello Akasha,

I have had a quick browse and have found lots of information on Vickers in Wolverhampton  :D

Can you tell us a little more where you are upto on your research and then maybe we can narrow the information down.

Have you found Alfred in later census returns???

Hi,

I've also got some Vickers from around Wolverhampton (well Birmingham and Oaken Codsall - either side of Wolverhampton) - I'm not sure if they are the same line.  I know Thomas James Vickers practiced Medicine in Birmingham.  I haven't got an Alfred in the family.  My Vickers family goes back with the name Valentine.

THOMAS JAMES VICKERS was born Bef. 25 Aug 1764 in Worfield (Cranmere), Shropshire, England, UK/England, and died 18 Aug 1851 in Penkridge, Stafford, UK.  He married

(1) MARTHA GITTINS 20 Feb 1794 in Worfield, Shropshire, England, UK, daughter of SAMUEL? GITTINS and PENELOPE.  She was born Bef. 24 Jan 1773 in Shropshire, England, and died Bef. 1840.  He married

(2) SARAH ? Aft. 1840 in Unknown.  She was born Abt. 1781 in Birmingham, Warwick, UK, and died Aft. 1851 in Unknown.

Children of THOMAS VICKERS and MARTHA GITTINS are:
   i.   ARTHUR EDWARD5 VICKERS, b. 22 Nov; d. Aft. 1851.
ii.   HENRY VICKERS, b. Bef. 30 Sep 1795, Birmingham, Warwick, England .
iii.   MARTHA VICKERS, b. Bef. 28 Apr 1797, Birmingham, Warwick, England ; d. Bef. 1851.
iv.   CHARLES VICKERS, b. Bef. 18 Jan 1800, Birmingham, Warwick, England; d. Bef. 1851.
   v.   MARIANN VICKERS, b. Abt. 1803, Birmingham, Warwick, England; d. 28 Jan 1887, Bridgnorth, Shropshire, England.
5.   vi.   JANE VICKERS, b. 29 Feb 1804, St Phillip's, Birmingham, UK; d. 18 Apr 1880, Solihull, Warwick,  UK.

The only line I go down for more detail is the line for Jane Vickers, but I do go back a couple of generations from Thomas.  Let me know if there are any linkages.

Jenny

hi,
I have just joined and was doing a search on the Vickers surname.
I have a connection with Vickers in Leighton, Shropshire.
I have a copy of the 1861 census that shows Alfred b 1858 Sedgley and
his father William Vickers b 1811 in Wrockwardine, Shropshire.
My branch has a Thomas Vickers born Wrockwardine 1818.(brothers-cousins?)
I notice also you mention Valentine. He had a son called Valentine in 1850 who in 1901 was in Oldbury, Worcestershire. He was a butcher.
Are there any connections here do you think?

Hi Ruby

I have a Thomas 1786 but in Shropshire, the Vickers's then moved to Staffordshire about 1855-58. They settled in Bilston. I also have links with Yorkshire. I would be interested in finding out more about your tree as Bilston is not a million miles away from Wolverhampton & Wednesfield. Do you use Genes Reunited?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Sue

I am also looking at Vickers in Wolverhampton.  I have a marriage cert. of George Vickers occupation boatman to Harriett smith in 1854 at St Marys registered in Wolverhampton.  Unfortunately I cannot make out the name of the parish unless it is just S. M[?]  they are both 21 [b. 1833] parents are said to be George Vickers and John Smith  George later changed his name to Vickerstaff and emigrated to NZ  Said his mother was Mary Burns.  Seems to be more than one St. Marys Is this connected to anyone at all?
