while doing research, i came across annie/anne candlish on a headstone for ann kinghorn and roderick mclean at rookwood cemetery
all i could make out on was annie candlish at the top . i looked up nsw bdm's and all i could come across for annie candlish died 1928, and parents roderrick and nancy, new lambton , is this the same person and the same family for roderick and anne kinghorn, i have no information except this
-
Hello there JAckeroo
Now Nancy is an excepted short name for Annie. Do you know if Annie Kinghorn was also called Nancy?
Now a quick look at the NSW on lin BDM shows an Annie McLean Marrying a John Candlish in Organ which ties in with your family history Orange that is.

no i did not realise nancy was the same as annie or ann, nor did i know if anne kinghorn was ever called nancy, i just found the headstone at rookwood with this on , and ann kinghorn and roderick mclean,
so i presume she was buried with parents ann and roderick,
also o it it had a john george griffith so he could be connected as well, but of him i know nothing
ann kinghorn was the sister of my husbands great grandfather james kinghorn
-
So then Jackeroo did Roderick McLean have a sister called Annie?
seems the most like scenario but how ever only a certificate would define the facts.
Did you note a date of death for John George Griffith please
regards JEnn

can i email the photo to you
-
Do you know how to post it to the board here ?
see below it says attach a photograph
if not yes email away

annie or ann could have been the daughter of abraham and harriet clarinda mclean, i found a birth for an annie or ann in 1872 orange , abraham was the son of ann and roderick mclean there was also an anne born in 1844 to ann and roderick mclean in orange, confusing
i do not know how to post photo's.
-
Not really Jackeroo as John Candlish married Annie McLean in 1887 at Orange ;)

-
well i am none the wiser, as to who this person is,
-
Hi
On the NSW Historical Indexes there is an Anne Mclean born 1844, father Roderick, mother Anne
As tropicalj said an Annie Mclean married John Candlish in 1877
and Annie Candlish died 1928 - father Roderick, mother Nancy
I think this may be the same person. When was James Kinghorn born? This could give an indication of the timeline for Roderick Mclean & Ann Kinghorn

james kinghorn was born in inverness, scotland to abraham and margaret (mcnab) there was william born in 1813 the oldest, james , anne/ann and betsey or elizabeth all born in scotland they emigrated in 1837 all but william and the father abraham, must have died, i am not sure when james was born, but he married before he came out, in strath inverness, ann married roderick mclean in 1824 in strath inverness and had 4 children before they came out

Did Roderick and Ann McLean have a daughter called Anne/Annie?

Hi
Have you found a passenger list for the Kinghorn family? It would be interesting to see if Ann married Roderick Mclean before migrating but either way they could have had a child in 1844. The best bet would be to get the death certificate for Annie Candlish.

abraham boyd son of james could be for mother, betsey(kinghorn, she married a boyd, sister of james and ann) as my husbands father is john james boyd kinghorn, probably after the boyd,
abraham father of ann, james, and betsey do not know when he died in scotland, that is why he did not come out,

Well there you go Jackeroo that is who the A K BOYD is

thanks , my husbands father never would say if they were visiting people, that they were related, so he would never know who was related and who was not

Hi

I think you will find that the Rev R S Candlish D.D. is Robert Smith Candlish one of the leaders of the Free Church in Scotland. If you google his name you will find a wealth of information about him including Bios.
A check of the marriage certificate between John Candlish & Annie McLean should confirm whether his parents are Robert Smith Candlish and Jessie Brock.
