I can't answer your census question for you but I can hazzard a guess at a couple of other things.  The children if baptised in Doncaster and so long as not non conformists would have been baptised at St George's Church.  The records of this may well be gone as there was a fire there in 1853 however a lot were saved thanks to the thick oak chest they were held in. Magdalens Road was named after the Church that once stood at the top of that Road St Mary Magdalens.  That and New Street no longer exist.  All that remains of that church are the burials which today lie under the present Corn Exchange.

Well if nothing else its a bit of local history for you

Thanks for that. I am gradually getting together things about Old Doncaster as it were. I have only found out in the last six months that is where Mum's family came from She is 77 and always thought her family came from Rotherham !!

If I can offer any more titbits for you just ask and I will try and get the information for you.  Also as you may have noted in the for sale section I have just completed the Christ Church baptisms and have now started on St George's so if you need the odd look up feel free to give me a shout.    This will be changing in the near future to an address held within rootschat thanks to Trystan and rootschat in general

Don't advertise outside of the For Sale board.  ;)
