I'd be grateful if some RC would have a look for me to see if there are any children born in SA to Benjamin John & Frances Sandford or Sanford. One child is John & would have been born between 1834-1837. The parents migrated from WA to Tasmania in 1832 & I can't find any children born in Tassie & then they went from Tassie to SA in 1845. Are there any death records in SA for Benjamin John or Frances Sandford/Sanford?

There is the death of a Fanny Sandford aged 99 on 23 July 1886 at Salisbury. Last residence given as Salisbury also, and Fanny is the widow of Benjamin.

Can't see a death for Benjamin though...... :-\

Found Benjamin's death under SANFORD......he died aged 45 on 7th July 1847 death place unknown. Last place of residence listed as Hindmarsh. No relative listed either.

Marriage of the son John is listed. Details availble if you would like them. There are no marriages of any other children with father Benjamin though under either Sandford or Sanford.

According to this, John was born before 1832.....
John SANDFORD aged 40 married Sarah BROOKS aged 40 on 31 Aug 1866 at St John Church Salisbury
Fathers = Benjamin SANDFORD & James GARDENER
Ref = Ade 68/426
Looks as though Sarah was a widow.

Are there any marriages etc for Eliza Jane Sanford & Fanny Kisiah Sanford/Sandford in SA Dee? They were both baptized in Tasmanian in 1839 but most probably born prior to that.

I've just found an entry in BISA stating that a John SANDFORD arrived 1845 on board the Henry from Tasmania, wife unknown with 4 children. Could that be your Benjamin John?

No marriages for a Fanny or a Francis or a Kisiah, but there is the following.....
William VINCE aged 35 married Eliza SANDFORD aged 18 on 15th June 1852 at Holy Trinity Church Adelaide.
Ref = Ade 5/83
Unfortunately fathers are un-named. :-\

Found the death of young John and wife Sarah.....
John SANDFORD aged 85 of Salisbury died 6th Sep 1911 at Salisbury
Relative listed was son John SANDFORD.
Ref = Ade 359/322
Sarah SANDFORD aged 86 and a widow of Salisbury died 30 Oct 1912 at Salisbury.
Deceased husband given as John SANDFORD
Ref = Ade 369/377
Son John suggests that Sarah may have been John's second wife......I need to investigate further, and see what turns up.....

I've been trying to find if young John had indeed been married earlier, but while I can find a marriage in 1854, father unknown, and some births of children, one of whom was John, I cannot see a death of the wife and mother. :-\

Hi Dee...yes, the 1854 John Sandford arrival with 4 children is "my" Benjamin John :D I've since found out that the 4 children's names were: William, John, Charles and Stephen. Apart from John, who you have found a marriage for already, can you see any marriages & deaths for the other boys?

Added....I knew I had seen the names Stephen, Charles and William Sandford in BISA.....but they all turn out to have arrived at different times, and have different parents. :-\

I thought I'd found a marriage for Charles Sandford, but further checking showed it was a different Charles! :-\
I cannot see marriages for any of Charles, William or Stephen Sanford/Sandford.

There is the following death.....but no relative listed, so it is hard to know if it is your Stephen Sandford or not......
Stephen SANFORD aged 24 of Bowden died 9th Dec 1852

Mike…..I have been trying to follow up on the fact that on John Sandford’s death certificate in 1911, the relative listed was his son John. Now we know that John married aged 40 to Sarah Brooks, and no births have been found to them. So was he a widower aged 40 ?
Now I have found some information that may or may not be correct, but you might like to have it on file in case something else crops up that can help you sort it out.
There is this marriage…..
John SANDFORD of full age married Mary Ann GREEN aged 21 on 23rd Feb 1854 at Christ Church North Adelaide.
Fathers not recorded.

Then there are the following births, all occurring in the area around Salisbury
John SANDFORD & Mary Ann GREEN had the following children
Charles SANDFORD born 21st Nov 1854 at Light
Ref = Ade 5/75
John SANDFORD born 7th Oct 1856 at Dry Creek
Ref = Ade 7/366
Sophia Sanders SANDFORD born 25 Jun 1859 at Dry Creek
Ref = Ade 15/121

No more chn after 1859….but I can’t find a specific death for Mary Ann!
However….there is this death…..
Mary Ann SANFORD aged 30 of Salisbury died 25th Sep 1862 at Salisbury.
Ref = 9/ 399
BUT the relative is listed as Charles SANFORD, husband.
I can find no other reference to this couple….in marriages or births or BISA.
Could Charles have reported the death of brother John’s wife, and a mistake been made in regards to his relationship to the deceased?
Next I followed up on marriages for the children of John Sandford and Mary Ann Green……and these all appear very likely working from father’s name and ages……
John SANDFORD aged 19 and single married Charlotte PHILLIPS aged 22 and single on 27th Apr 1875 at House Salisbury
Fathers = John SANDFORD & Henry PHILLIPS
Ref = PtA AV 103/191
Charles SANDFORD aged 22 and single married Grace Jago HARRIS aged 21 and single on 21st Oct 1875 at the residence of William Fewster, Salisbury.
Fathers = John SANDFORD & James HARRIS
Ref = Ade 105/252
Sophia SANDFORD aged 18 and single married John FOREMAN aged 20 and single on 11th March 1876 at the residence of Mr Scott , Lower Light.
Fathers = John SANDFORD & George FOREMAN
Ref = PtG 106/756

Next I checked the children of these three couples, hoping that there would be some hint in the names used……but although some names recurred, I didn’t find anything that gave that vital clue.
As I said…..there is not conclusive evidence that I can see……but I have checked out all the possibilities that I can think of at this stage.

Mary Ann Green was, I think, my great great great great grandmother. Could be very wrong.
