www.automatedgenealogy.com shows this family in 1911 in Toronto South. Henry and Agnes are listed as coming to Canada in 1890, the younger children b. England as coming in 1910, so you could look for both crossings.

- some cemetery data from Parry Sound here.

- Henry (senior!) signed up in WWI, as Henry Ruben Rand (claims to be born 1870, says he served in the Boer war). They were in Parry Sound by this point. Son Norman also signed up, son Henry Edward not listed (deceased, in navy/merchant navy - Parry Sound is a port - signed up in England or US instead?)
-
Henry Rand 22 and Agnes Rand 20 left Liverpool on 28 Jan 1891 bound for New York. The ship they sailed on was The TEUTONIC and Henry is listed as a labourer.

Carol

Hi again Sue - were you surprised he went twice to Canada ?
-
Don't know when dad travelled back to Canada but the rest of them left Liverpool, bound for Quebec on the Corsican on the 6 Oct 1910. They are transcribed as Rands.
Mrs A Rand wife
Norman Rand labourer
May spin (poss meaning spinster?)
Flo,Ruby,Archie and Kathie all listed as children.
Sadly no more info this end,but perhaps there is on the Canadian side.

It says his next of kin is Agnes,so I think that means that dad Henry has died by then?

Yeah, sorry, can't read :P :-[ :-X :-\ pushing off now...

My grandfather lists Henry Rueben Rand as his father when he enlisted in 1943. He was raised in Fern Glen in the district of Parry Sound. My records show that HR was married to Agnes . My Grandfather named one of his three children after her.
the thread here indicates a photo of HR as a small boy. I don't know how to access that...or the other links. happy to share what info i do have.
-
Hello Kelly. Thank you for your reply . HR was the nephew of my 3xtimes great grand mother (Ann Rand 1805-1836) i have got back to Robert Rand b 1710. any information would be most welcome . how far have you got. best regards Sue.
-
I've just been dabbling really but find it challenging finding info from the other side of the ocean. As a result my documents are more 'recent' and local. Military papers for HR, Norman, my grampa Victor and death, anniversary notices as well as some family photos.
I sent an email to a jackandsue email that was looking for info on a Muskoka website. if that is you, you now have my email address and I would be happy to send off some doc/photos.
Are you in the UK or Canada?
-
I am in the uk. i am trying to get back further, but not having much luck. Sue
-
I know this is an old thread but I am a Rand. My grand father was James Rand the youngest born in 1925 in Fern Glen. His father was Henry Edward Rand. Would love to get more information on where my family originally came from...
