Ever since last week's announcement of the joint census projects between FamilySearch.org and affiliate companies such as FindMyPastcom and Ancestry.com, there has been speculation and trepidation (and even downright disgust) that FamilySearch might remove access to the free indexes created by volunteers at FamilySearchIndexing from FamilySearch.org. In response, the company released an announcement today in an effort to clear up the confusion.
Basically the announcement states that all data indexedby FamilySearch volunteers will continue to be made available for free to the public through FamilySearch.org - both now and in the future. Access to the related digital images may not always be free to everyone, but FamilySearch will, when possible "seek to provide free public access to digital images of original records." Due to affiliate obligations, some digital records may only available for free access to FamilySearch members (volunteers and indexers who meet basic contribution requirements each quarter, patrons at Family History Centers, and members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who’s contributions support FamilySearch’s operations).
From the press release:
The general public will have several options to access any fee-based images offered under FamilySearch affiliate agreements. 1) Home access will be free for FamilySearch members; 2) access is free through a local Family History Center or the Family History Library; 3) access is often free through the record custodian or archive reading room; or 4) for a nominal fee, the public can access the images on specified record custodian or commercial Web sites.

FamilySearch has been a valuable asset in my research, it was free and I could help others.
Why have they added the procedure of Sign In with LDSAccount?
I suppose I will have to think of and remember another Username and Password. ::)

I realize this post is quite a few years old. However it has a reply added to yesterday, so thought I would have my say. No idea why they added the Sign In.
I presume FamilySearch is now incorporated in the beta.familysearch.
A few weeks ago I was searching on the beta.familysearch. It seems there has been quite a lot of changes. They have numerous records on there which can be helpful to us researches

However I found information that has clearly come from Public Trees on Ancestry, as well as photos too.
The person contributing this information in some cases is not the researcher, and the information is incorrect. Perhaps you have not used the website for sometime and have not noticed the changes.
