Hi Paul,
none show up on Free BMD - from your other posts, I assume that with your ancestor having the middle name Whitford, you are thinking of a marriage between Whitford and Wilson.
I think a good start would be to get your ancestor's birth certificate - this would show the fathers of the two parents and other information that could help- addresses and witnesses etc.
Then when you have those names, we can help you by looking the people up. As you say Wilson is a common name.
best wishes

Hi,
Found this on www.cwgc.org :
Leslie William George Wilson age 35 died 07/10/1940 awarded BEM
Husband of EK Wilson. He was a Station Officer, London Fire Brigade and
died at Shaftesbury Ave. Fire Station
Is this your man?
Female version is Lesley.

Hi again,
you seem to be getting so involved here that the organisation is going a bit off ;D or as you say you have more information which has not been disclosed. You need to take a step back to review what you have and what you need to do.
Glad you have sent for the certificates- hopefully you will get a bit more accurate information.
These are presumably the certificates you have sent for:
1901 September quarter vol 2b pg 433 Portsmouth Leslie Whitford Wilson
1899 June quarter vol 3b og 459 Portsea Island Daisy Lilian Johnston
Now this presents a problem in that Daisy should be on 1901 aged 1 yr. (she would have been 2 yrs later in 1901). I can't see one just yet. There may be a possibility that this Daisy died soon after census and the family named next child after her- that sometimes happened but who knows ???
Before you look elsewhere for your family- unless you know that they had other origins it's best to wait for the certificates.
Do you think that your family have Shoreditch connections or is that just speculation?
Speaking of speculation - the closest I can find at the moment is a Lilian Johnson 1 yr born Portsmouth- parents Charles and Mary. Her sister is Violet- so that could be a clue re flower names chosen for girls :-\

ps there is a Leslie Whitford born 1900 Southampton which is a bit of a coincidence

strong possibility - lots of Whitfords in Hampshire as well as Wilsons!
Do you have the first names of the Shoreditch WIlsons who had the two girls?

yes you do and from what I can briefly see there is a lot of energy and patience being spent here when really perhaps you need to be patient and just wait ! You will find out in a couple of weeks and we will all look forward to hearing some positive news.

Not sure why they have the son down as being born in Portsmouth in 1901...yet according to the family in Shoreditch he was 16 by then!
Cant think how my source could have got the dates for the son Leslie so wrong! :(
It obviously isn't the same family then is it ::)
If your grandad was Leslie and was born in Portsmouth in 1901 then he can't be part of the family with a Leslie who is in Shoreditch and who is 16 in 1901.

Cripesalmighty
Can you tell us why you have gone through the whole thread marking aa to each one and changing the entire context and complete nonsense of all our help?
Carol

how sad!

The thread is not a dead end as you put it.
As soon as you get the birth cert of the 1901 Leslie, you could have posted the info here and loads of us would be only too pleased to help you further,as we have done hundreds of people before, over the 4 years since Rootschat has been going.
I too find it very sad that you feel like this.
I hope no one comes along who is looking for the same family,as there is now no info to be had under the Wilson/Whitford title of the thread.
Best regards
Carol

I have removed cripesamighty's response to Carol's question about the somewhat mangled thread and locked the topic. Some of the responses may be of use to someone else.
Any problems, please contact me by PM.
