Title: Brocks in Australia
Post by: gina1427 on Friday 05 September 08 13:34 BST (UK)
Can anyone please help me find info on George Howard Arthur Brock born in England 1864. He married Ada Crawford and they had a daughter Ada Violet Kortright Brock.

I am completely stuck. I have been told that George and his wife died at a young age but I have no idea whether this is true or not.

Help  :'(

I think this may be a possibility for Ada Violet.
from www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyhistory/search.
Marriage
4343/1906
Groom  PHILLIPS  Jacob N
Bride   BROCK  Ada V K Y
Reg. Dist. GRANVILLE
the Y is for  "YOUNG"

Death

42742/1973
PHILLIPS  Ada Violet
Father George  Arthur  H
Mother Ada
Reg. District Burwood

and if this information is correct there is a digitised war service dossier on
http://naa.gov.au/collection/recordsearch.aspx for Jacob Nathan PHILLIPS, wife Ada Violet.
And Jacobs' obituary is on www.ryersonindex.org.

I have a lot of information on Brocks from Norfolk, some of whom emigrated to Australia. Where did your lot come from?

My Brocks originated from Guernsey. They moved around quite a bit. Spending time in Devon, Somerset/Gloucester (mainly Bristol/Clifton/Bedminster), London and Wales.

I don't think we have any connection to Brocks in Norfolk. They were a family with connections to the military and medical fraternities. Do these places or occupations mean anything to you?

Other names connected with the family are Kortright, Aikin, Carter, Bevan/s and Pearce.

Hope this helps

I know about that lot. Not connected to mine, alas!  :'(

I presume you are connected to Sir Isaac Brock who came from the Channel Isles?

Yes we are connected to Isaac Brock of Guernsey

Isaac Brock was my 4x Gt Grandfather William's cousin.

I have a large file of Brock info. Will happily look through if you send me some names. There are certainly some from Cambridgeshire and Nottinghamshire may be a link, they are the right side of the country :) :) :)

I'm are part of Brock DNA project in USA - it tests the Y-DAN that is unchanged and passeed down from male to male.

Are there any male descendants of Sir Issac Brock that could be tested?  Do you know any Brock's in the UK or Australia that would be interested in participating in the project?

My lot are not linked to Sir Isaac, as far as I know.

I might be interested in taking part in the project, if you can give more details.

http://www.brockancestry.com/dna.htm

Above are the links the project (Y-DNA results page and Home page).  It is a legitimate project.  The J2 Group found a Brack in Switzerland and confirmed matches with other J2 members in the USA.  So, they are actually not Brock but Brack.

I'm in the R1b1b2 group.  This website does not show, but most of my matches are from Ireland, Scotland, Australia and England in general.

As far has I know no one in the project is connected to Sir Issac Brock.  From what I researched he has no living male ancestors.  And he himself did not have children.

I'm trying to figure out where my Brock ancestor came from.  Rainey Wooten Brock was born in 1765 in Virginia.  That is as far back as I can trace it.  He married Nancy Rich the daughter of Nimrod Rich in Bedford County Va late 1790's.

You would think the name Rainey or Raney Wooten Brock is not common but I've had no luck so far.

Our project results are skewed to the J1 group because most of the participants are from one family in Kentucky.  We need more participants and oversees participants from Australia or UK would be great and could resolve many questions.  Pass this info on to any Brock's you know from around the world.

What do you think Meles?  Know any Brocks that would participate in the DNA project?

Yeah - I know the cost is high.  I'm just a participant and not in control of the project or pricing.  So, I'm not selling it.  But I just think it is a promising tool for tracing ancestory origins.  I already mention this in a PM I sent you, but I'll mention here again in case others read this post.

There is a contribution fund where memebers and non memebers can donate a contribution for particualr Brock lines.  I'm going to try and start a contribution fund for English Brocks in general.   If we can get enough donations maybe we can find a willing male Brock participant in England.

Thanks for your replies.

I am interested to know about the Brock family which is mentioned here. I have some detail about the Norfolk Brock family. Alburgh is also significant to me. My main interest is the following family:-

My great great grandfather went from Norfolk to Australia in 1857 with his wife and children. He, Leonard Lammas, was born before his mother married a man called Brock, and he was reared with the surname Brock. His legal records, however, show his birth name of Lammas/Lummis/Lammis etc. By this I mean for marriage, children's births, and shipping.

In Sandhurst ( late Bendigo) the family used the name Brock or Lammas Brock. They had emigrated to Australia and were on board the ship 'Grand Trianon' in 1857. His wife was Phoebe Punchard. Their daughter came to New Zealand, where she married George Moffitt.

Hi Meles, well thank you for so much information here.  I know my Brock line came from Devon to Wales. Also you may have heard of Peter Brock the racing driver [now deceaced] from Australia, well he was a cousin of my mother. My grandmother Emily Willmett well her mother was married to a man from my Brock line her maiden name was Annie probably from the Sayer family[not as yet perfectly confermed though]                   It looks like you maybe in New Zealand [such a pretty place ] I went there to work years ago now, my daughters partner os also from New Zealand. I am situated in Australia. I have many names of my Brock line but they are all from Swansea Wales area. Do you have a Tommy Brock in your tree ? He apparantley got married twice -had many children. more later on . Regards Diane.
