Wessex Archaeology have produced a document about air crashes which lists many around Dorset. It can be found at:
http://www.scribd.com/doc/2251377/Aircraft-Crash-Sites-at-Sea-a-Scoping-Study-project-report.
(Hope it works! :) )
it lists a Bristol Freighter which crashed 16 miles South of Portland on 6/5/1949 with the loss of seven lives, while on a "s/e test". Her reg. was G-AIFF.

To add to the above, it looks as if Wessex took the listings from an excellent website about aviation in Hants and Dorset at:
http://daveg4otu.tripod.com/dorset/dorcrash.html

The crew are listed as JAC Northway, JM Radcliffe,RM Pollard, EJN Archibold,
RH Daniels, CWE Flook and JL Gundry at
http://www.testflyingmemorial.com/1946-70.htm.
which gives more info about the crash.
