Title: 1901 William Meadmore
Post by: LibbyW on Tuesday 09 September 08 14:52 BST (UK)
I was contacted through Genes Reunited, and given a Family Bible that a person found at a car boot sale. The family in it are definately mine but I have a few queries, inside the bible was a newspaper cutting that relates to William Meadmore and his varying members of family and I can only presume it is the son of my William Meadmore but I have been unable to find anything out about him so thought the 1901 census a good place to start.
William Meadmore's father dies in March 1900 so hopefully the William you search for should be who I am looking for

Details....
William Meadmore 18/10/1866 Romford Essex

any info gratefully recieved  ;D

thank you

The nearest I can find in 1901 is this..but it says Ellen is married which could be just a mistake.

1901 Cencus-Shoreditch
RG13/272/106/14
63 Pitpeed St

Ellen Meadmore 33 M b Romford
Nellie V  " 4 dau b             "
William  " 11 son b           "

There are quite a few others living here and William along with some of the others have got a tick against their name in the " Deaf,Dumb,Blind or Imbucile" column so he obviousley had some disability.

Thank you so much.
My Williams are on the 1881 and 1891 census
On the 1901 census I am looking for the William who is a Licensed Victuallers Assistant. I believe he went on to run the Saracens Head Hotel in Ashford so I think the young William in Shoreditch may not be mine.

I am away for a few days so may take a little while to reply, But all your help is gratefully appreciated!
Thanks

Libby

Hi again...

I had worked it out to be that young William in Shoreditch is the son of William the Lisenced Vic..

Is the William(b 1866) I found the same one as you have in 1881 and 1891?

Curious now  ;D ;D

For what its worth I still think Ellen is his wife...I think William was off Licenced Victualling and earning the money while Ellen stayed home looking after the disabled William.

In 1891 they all lived close together in Romford and its possible that in the 1901 when Ellen was in Shorditch it could be some sort of special unit for Williams disability especially as there were other disabled people were there.

Deperatly trying to make it all fit for you!!!!!

There is also a death for a William Henry Meadmore (b 1890) died 1908 in Stepney age 18.

The 1891 Cencus has him as William H.

Just dashing in on my way out.......
This is brilliant, thanks ;D

I  understand where your coming from when you say you still believe Ellen to be his wife.

I would appreciate census transcripts please.

I wonder if William the son that died in 1908 was the last in the Meadmore line?

These families don't make it easy when they name all sons 'William' do they ::)

Hi there.

I am currently looking into my family history and have a Bible here, which so we believe is our family bible. (TBC).

I have been looking through ancestry.co.uk and Google and typed in Ellen hollowbread's name on the off chance and find this conversation between you both. It's only when meadmore came up I thought maybe there would be a connection...

I am hoping we could help each other with this.
