Title: 10 'free' credits for ScotlandsPeople site
Post by: McVitie on Tuesday 30 September 08 12:36 BST (UK)
Hello to you,

Not sure if this has been posted here recently, but I've just got 10 free credits for the SP site, by registering my interest in the following website:-

www.ancestralscotland.com

Registration is free, and there are no commitments etc.,  just register for their quarterly newsletter. Once registered they'll send you a credit code to input on the SP site and voila! ;)

Cheers
McVitie

The link is the correct one. However, there is no connection at present for some reason.

SP themselves promote the site www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/content/help/index.aspx?r=546&975

Hiya McVitie

Thanks for the suggestion. I have just obtained my 10 free Credits for Scotlands People.

We probably will be going to Scotland again shortly, when the weather in Dumfries & Galloway improves! I hear that it's been much better in the Western Isles though. :D

Mine arrived immediately by e-mail.

You have to register eventually with Scotlandspeople, if you haven't already, then you can use the credits.

OK, I have my 10 free credits.  Are there any search tips that will help me not waste my small capital?  Meanwhile, I'm in SP reading the help section.

Don't let yourself be carried away. Try and be as accurate as you can be with the little amount of information that you know.

Good luck, especially with Wigtownshire. It's my family's neck of the woods, that is, in 1800!

Thanks a lot McVitie
I got the free credits and had the exact date for a wedding in 1913 at Newcraighall
the information I got was fantastic I would have never have paid.
As it is not my tree but the sister in law asked me to look for hers I got free credits in minutes.
The information I got put me into the scottish censuses plenty of work to do tommorow just like christmas when I was a child.
Thanks again for the information.

Wigtownshire is what Í'm interested in, up to 1834 when my people bailed out and went to the USA.  Do you have any tips or special sources I should know about?  The surnames of interest are Logan and Conning.

The 'register' page isn't loading for me. Is it working for anyone else?

This is a pretty good resource for Wigtownshire:

Hi Sarah

This has come up a number of times in the last few weeks. Not sure if anyone has got to the bottom of it. Might be worth contacting Ancestral Scotland to ask what is happening regarding their offer as it is clearly still being promoted on their site  :-\

I tried signing up this morning and got an email but it was incomplete and didn't have any message, just a greeting followed by a comma!  ::)

I do think it is worthwhile persevering with a response from Ancestral Scotland. Perhaps also an email to Scotlands People given that it is a joint promotion.... ::)
