Title: Northop baptism help please (HEWITT)
Post by: Gat1 on Sunday 26 October 08 22:58 GMT (UK)
Hi,

Would some one be kind enought to lookup the baptisms of George HEWITT (~1874) and James HEWITT (~1876). Their parents were Robert and Harriett and I am trying to find Harriett's maiden name.

Thanks
Gary

There is a Marriage of a Robert Hewitt and a Harriet Harvey at Erpingham Norfolk in 1871.The GRO reference is Volume 4b,Page 119.So it looks as if they could have married in Norfolk before commencing their travels!

Yes it is entirely possible that could be the Marriage as there is a Harriet Harvey showing as nine months old in the 1851 Census born in Southrepps Norfolk. She is showing as the daughter of a Robert Harvey given as born in Southrepps in 1808 and his Wife Susannah given as born in Trunch Norfolk in c 1810.HO1071809/138/4 Southrepps is given as being in the Erpingham District.

Hi,

Thanks. This is what I suspected but this raises a mystery for me.  I have a birth certifcate for a George Hewitt (born Southrepps, Norfolk) who's parents are given as Isaac Hewitt and Harriett Harvey, yet she is supposed to be in Wales married to Isaac's brother Robert.  I have been given information what Isaac Hewitt actually married Harriett Larke but then how come the birth certificate says otherwise.

Cheers
Gary

Well Gary I have to admit that I wouldn't even attempt to try to answer your question. All I can offer I'm afraid is that it is at times like these our Family History can be quite baffling!

I have just obtained a marriage certificate for Isaac hewitt to harriet Larke , both born at southrepps, they were it seems married in Newcastle for some unknown reason, and they had put the Isaacs  father down as George Hewitt , As he was born out of wedlock it should have been George Temple, have you any ideas on this Gary

Hi,

I also have the same marriage certifcate.  George Temple was Isaac's father and Sarah Hewitt was his Mother. They married about a year after Isaac was born so I guess he then started using Hewitt as his surname. How are you related?

Gary

arthur hewitt is my grandfather, looking for imformation on his brothers and sister, have found out that john was killed in ww1 , (another character! )seems he married then lived with another.
One moved to Croydon I think and one it seems lived in North Walsham and had maybe a wife Becky.
My mother who is getting on, is interested as she knew nothing about her father Arthurs family.
How are you related?

Hello Gary, the only baptism I could see in Northop was.

June 14 1874. George William s/o Robert & Harriett Hewitt. Abode, Wern. Fathers Occ, Labourer.
Most baptisms had Mothers maiden name in the margin sadly this one didn't :(

I couldn't see any of his siblings even though they are in Northop on the 1881.

Paul.
