We are trying to trace if members of our family went to the workhouse due anomalies in the law. The respective members of the families concerned would have been born between the years 1885 and 1895. They were born in the Parish of Blodwel on the Shropshire, Montgomery shire border at Llanyblodwel or Porth-Waen.
It is believed they may have spent a short time in the work house between 1902 and 1906. Which would be the most likely work house for them to be sent to, we understand it being linked to the parish of birth.?
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
Very many thanks, Eric.

Hi there Eric,
Have you had a look at www.workhouses.org.uk (http://www.workhouses.org.uk).This is a very comprehensive site with lots of information on the workhouse system throughout England and Wales. It should give you some assistance and guidance in deciding which workhouse your relatives may have gone to.
Good luck with your research.

Hi Eric
It might well have been the Morda Workhouse just south of Oswestry. I think that was the nearest to Llanyblodwel.
If so, the Shropshire Archives have the records.
I'll go check the coverage of the Oswestry Union and get back to you.

Yes it was:
he Incorporation's local Act status made it immune from many of the provisions of the 1834 Poor Law Amendment Act and it maintained its independence until the end of the workhouse system in 1930. The Incorporation's member parishes were: Chirk, Kinnerley, knockin, Llansilin, Llanymynech, Llanyblodeell, Oswestry Parish, Oswestry Town and Liberties, Ruyton of the Eleven Towns, St Martin, Selattyn, Soughton or or Sychtyn, West Felton, and Whittington. Weston Rhyn joined the Incorporation in 1897. The Incorporation continued to use the workhouse at Morda

Hi both, Gadget and LLWYD,
Many thanks for your replies on the work house, they were most interesting. We may be out of luck I am not sure the Archives have the documentation with names of inmates for the period we are looking for.
Very many thanks, Eric.

Hello Gadget,
There would probably be only one chance of getting the name of an inmate, maybe from your enclosed list and that would be the "Minute Book" and I do not any names are mentioned in that. Unfortunately the years are wrong for the period I am looking for.
Many thanks, Eric.
