Hi please could anyone help me :)
My great uncle Richard James Rolfe apparently
went to Australia i think in 1908 to Brisbane???
He joined the Australian army and was killed
in the first world war
he was born in either Hungerford or Great Shefford
Berkshire England and was the son of Edwin and
Mary Ann Rolfe(nee Brown)
he apparently had a wife named Florence and am
unsure if she went out to Australia with him
Many thanks Regards spec

Hi
Our National archives site has a fully digitised war service history for Richard Rolfe.
You will learn a great deal about him from it.
He enlisted at Charters Towers Qld and married FLorence Mabel Scadden during the war in 1917.
The certificate is contained in the file with her deatails.
It appeaars that she did not come to Australia, but a closer reading and more investigation my prove me wrong on that.
there is a letter from his sister a Mrs John Baker among other documents.

Hello there Spec
Rolfe, Florence V J. mother's maiden name Scadden, Tisbury 5a 287
Very sad!
Sue
This is the birth of a child to Richard James Rolfe and his Wife Florence Scadden. Sad because he didn't live to see her.
There isn't anything much we can do to put this together really you just need to read the postings.
The WW1 had a letter written by his sister Mrs. Baker from Emerald.
Sue figured out who the sister was. We didn't know anything about his family just dedueced it from reading the information that was there.
So at some point in time his sister also came to Queensland and married and possibly had children (index only goes to 1914 for births)
Are you missing any other siblings for Richard
Jenn
-
oh that was sad,i really cant understand why Polly went to Australia
and of course will never no but at least i no where she went the other
siblings stayed in the Shefford Berkshire area
i really cant thankyou enough for all your assistance
which i appreciate so much
Kindest Regards spec ;D ;D ;D
-
i really cant understand why Polly went to Australia
Well, spec, A great many people did and found it to be the best decision of their lives!
Perhaps she accompanied her brother.,There may also have been others of the family already here or with her on the voyage. Perhaps she already knew the Bakers in some way. We can't know.
