Hi All,
If anyone has access to the PRs for Saxtead, Suffolk I would like to have a lookup please for
the following;
birth/bapt. John Ribbans/Revans about 1671 and his father
" " Robert Ribbans " 1638/9 who died about 1697
The surname has been written at various times as; Ribbans/Ribbens/Revans/Revance/Rubins
and possibly a lot more variations.
any help will very welcome.

Ann Revans died March 28th 1785, buried All Saints Churchyard, Saxtead
She married twice
William Chapman ?
John Keeble 20th Jan 1742 All Saints Saxtead
I expect that you are aware of this tit bit;
Pair of Tombs to Revans Family in Churchyard of Church of St Mary, East Bergholt
When John Revens married Jane Parker in 1724, he was shown as "from Debenham", whilst Jane was from Mickfield in the register.
A year later Thomas Revans married Susan Killett 4th October 1725
Samuel Revans of Winston married Sarah Allison 1st October 1731
William Revans of Stoke & Elizabeth Smith married 6th December 1749
You should be aware that my edition of Phillimores shows many text corrections for the Mickfield marriages, suggesting that it should not be trusted.
-
Thank you kindly for that info.
I had forgotten that I had posted this request in 2008.
Are you suggesting the Phillimores edition you have, should not be trusted?

Whilst checking the Chattisham PR for another rootschatter I found a Ribbons/Revans reference and thought of you ;D.
Caroline d/o John Vince and Sarah his wife (late Ribbons) born 19th May, baptised 21st May, received into church 1st June 1788
John Vince of Chattisham and Sarah Rivens of Aldham, banns published at Chattisham on 25th Nov, 2 Dec and 9 Dec 1787.

Hello Anne,
Thank you kindly for thinking of me.
I have recorded these details and believe that Sarah is the d/o
James & Bathsheba (nee Catt) and was bapt. 1766 in Ipswich.
Bathsheba being a "no show" any where so far.
Your help is very much appreciated.

Hi ribbo39
I know we have spoken before but I can't remember if I told you that I have some Ribbans in Debenham, I have got back to John (1728) and his father was also a John but I don't know where he was from. John (1728) married a Elizabeth and they had a daughter also called Elizabeth (1764) who was also from Debenham. Any connections here ?

Hello Alan b,
Yes, we have spoken before and I do have a John Ribbans in my tree, unfortunately my John was
bapt. in 1786 who incidentally also married an Elizabeth but in Rushmere.
He was the son of James (b.1723 Winston).
James was the son of Samuel (abt 1695-8)
Samuel was the son of John (b.1671) and Mary (b.abt 1675).
Your John could possibly be a son of John & Mary who I know nothing about as I have only got five children
listed from 1698 - 1700
I certainly believe that there is a connection along the line, but where ??
My ancestors seem to come from Debenham, Saxtead, Ipswich, and other parishes in the area.

Just another snippet for you - obviously you might already know it.
John Ribbons of Wickham Market and Elizabeth Wright of Charsfield widow
were married by licence at Charsfield 15th April 1735.

Hello Annes,
Very remiss of me not to thank you before this . Missed your snippet somehow - will
record for future.
Thank you once again for thinking of me.

Hi Ribbo39.
I am new to this site so hopefully you get this message. I saw your very old post from 2010 in regards to Ribbans at the old Ipswich cemetery and you wanted someone to get you some information from the grave? I'm not sure if you had any luck with this as I couldn't find any further posts. I visit often as my family is also in same cemetery so if you need this information, attach a copy of the map and the plot and I shall look for you!
Kind regards
Mel

Hi Mel,
I've just looked at the Suffolk forums and have found a message from you on 7the Feb.!! I don't know how I missed it, but thank you for your kind offer.
I don't recall asking for burial info in this topic although I have sought details on another thread in the past.
At the moment I don't have access to my genealogy software, so assuming you receive this message, please reply by which time I might be back in business and can give more detail.
