Hi Sean,
Many thanks for your kind offer.
Would you be able to check for a Peter and Hester Kilroe, they had a daughter Margaret born about 1892.
According to Margaret's marriage cert Peter was a Farmer, family legend says that Peter worked in Tullamore Distillery.
Unfortunately this is all the detail I have.
Lynn :)
-
Hi Lynn,
No mention anywhere about KILROE.
I typed 'Kilroe Tullamore' into the search engine and it showes that the name is still around Tullamore, so if you go there you may get a contact address or email.

Jack

Hi,
My farther was a Rody Harte from New Road Birr Co. Offaly. His mother is Anne Harte, formally Doyle from Kenmare Co. Kerry (still alive 93 yo) and farther was Michael Harte, died at 50+ years in 1970.
My farther is one of seven children, sadly he died in 1984. However all others are still alive, most living in Birr.
I would be very interested in any information you have on the name. I now live in Hampshire UK, but am intrigued by the history of the name in Birr.
Best regards,
Ronan Harte

Hello Jack, Just wondered about your look up's for these census - I am hoping to visit Tullamore at some point soon and wondered if this records are available to view in person. I thought I had read somewhere that they were not available for public searches, but could me mistaken.
many thanks

Hi,
Rody Harte (44) of Leixlip Co. Kildare was my farther. Nancy Harte was his aunt. She moved back to Birr in early 80's.
My granfarther was Michael Harte, he married Annie Doyle of Kenmare, Co Kerry and both lived in New Road Birr. My granfarther died in 1970 and grandmother died earlier this year (aged 93), both are also buried in Birr cemetry.
Hope this helps,

I am looking for My gt grandfather Joseph D Armstrong who lived in Tullamore. 1911 census has him as a boarder in Tullamore. Would there be any records after this date to search. Also wondering how I could find out his dob etc from his grave. Can't find anything online. Believe they were Methodist or Presbyterian. His first wife died young and the daughter Helen Armstrong was brought up by aunts as far as I know. These could be Haslams, Morris, Kilroe, Bennett and Clarke. Would love some help
-
hi Lorelei,
I doubt his headstone, if there is one, has his date of birth, although it could have his age. You could also establish a probable year of birth either from his age on the 1911 census or by looking for his death cert.
familysearch have an Irish Civil index available here : http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#c=1408347;p=2;t=searchable
they cover dates up to 1958. If you find a possible index match you can order a cert from the GRO - www.groireland.ie
the best match to a death for that name that I can see in Co. Offaly is :
Record type: Death
Name: Joseph Armstrong
Registration district: Birr
quarter / year : Jul - Sep 1914
Age: 64 (est year of birth 1850)
Volume: 3 / Page: 219
but the age does not fit with the details on the census.. could Joseph have died somewhere outside Co. Offaly ? The census lists his county of birth as Antrim (c1887)
Shane
-
Thank you for that website. I was aware of the Www.familysearch Site but not the pilot search. JD Armstrong probably died around 1965 which would explain why he does not appear
Is there an authority/ caretaker of graveyards that can give plot numbers/ details?
Thank you again

Hi SeanMac,
I have just received some info from the parish church in Tullamore about a family of mine - they have given the baptism in December of 1903 and an address of Wheelright Lane (Now Offaly Street) I have checked the 1911 but they are not there (infact i can't find them anywhere but that another matter) so i am hoping that they mayhave been there in 1901!!
The Family name is Cunningham and the head will be Peter or Bridget - hope you can help as this has gone on for a vvvvv long time.
I was told that they were located on the 1901 census but the cost is £160 which is a little too rich for my pocket at the present... Hope you can help

Hi Jack
As your interest is Tullamore I thought I would ask if you can help me with some research?
I am searching for the Potter family from Tullamore. Sarah Potter born 1811 married a gentleman named Smart and had a son called Thomas Born 1836 in Ireland . Mr Smart may have died as the next time I locate Sarah (in 1841) she is living with her son and twin brothers John and Henry (born 1821 in Tullamore) in Lincolnshire. Thomas Smart died in 1842 and Sarah married into my Shickell family. I suspect that Sarah and her brothers probably left Ireland at the time of the famine.
Best wishes
Felix

Tullamore Roots 1901;

-
Hi
Thank you very much for that information; so maybe some Potters remained in Tullamore and this family are their descendants. This is purely conjecture but may lead elsewhere, did the record that you found have ages listed?
Best wishes
Felix
-
Sorry, no, but it is taken from the Offaly 1901 census, so if you can get access to that, then it would shorten you search time.
-
Hello Jack,
Would you have any record of these two individuals, both supposedly born in Tullamore:
James Nugent, b. c1882
Christina Lawlor, b. c1884
It appears that they wed in Liverpool in 1913.
Justin
-
there's a good match for the birth of a James Nugent around the right time on the Civil Index :
Name: James Nugent
Registration district: Tullamore
Record type: Birth
quarter and year: Jul - Sep 1883
Volume: 3 / Page: 555
It may be worth ordering a cert from the GRO to see if he fits the details you have.
Shane
-
That's great, Shane. Thanks very much.
Has the GRO moved from Lombard Street to the IFSC is it?
I live in Raheny, so either way, it's no great inconvenience.
Justin
-
the GRO research room is now in the Irish Life centre, on Abbey St, near the Lotto HQ and VHI Their webpage is at : www.groireland.ie
you can search the Civil Index on Familysearch at : Irish Civil Index (http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=2;t=searchable;c=1408347)
