'Morning Mrs C.
FreeBMd has a marriage between Thomas Price & Mary Price at Llandovery (11 miles from Llanwrtyd Wells). June 1/4 1864 11a-905. This may have been the Regisration District for their area.

Also on FreeBMD: marriage between Thomas Price & Mary Price:...........
Mar 1865 Kniighton 11b-226
june 1867  at Hay..11b-251
Sep. 1867 Brecknock..11b-164

Hope one of these will help.

cheers Wendy M.

hello wendy, thankyou for your quick reply.yes i had found those records and had e/mailed the carmarthanshire record office as llanwrtyd wells came under llandovery district they tried a search and can find no record of a marriage between thomas and mary price with father's name john (mary's father) from 1862-1871. i also tried the knighton register office and they do not have the details either. i ordered the brecknock certificate from the GRO, but its still the wrong one!. this is the reason i am saying help! can anyone advise where to go from here?. i would have thought they would have been married in their home town llanwrtyd wells if so the records should be in the llandrindod wells surely.thankyou jan.

Hi Mrs C.

I had a similar problem with one of mine - it turned out the man's surname had been recorded completely wrong on the marriage certificate and therefore in the index.

I eventually found the marriage by giving the local register office all the details I had from census records, which included the township the groom lived in, and the  first name and occupation of the groom's father. All I knew about the bride was her full name as recorded on the birth certificate of one of their children. The register office searched over a three year period and fortunately found it.

Of course, Thomas and Mary might not have been married at all!

Anne

hi marmaduke 123,thankyou for your reply i was wondering if they did not get married at all but i think in a small place like llanwrtyd that would have been impossible really.

as you say there might be a mistake on the details which i will look into.

i have asked the national library of wales and they are going to have a look at the parish records for me.

thanks jan.

Hi mrs.c,
I googled for Chapels/Churches in LLanwrtyd Wells & several pages came up.

www.builth-wells.co.uk/comm.php?activecat=4&activesubcat=25&selectedID=157 - 15k -

This in "Builth WElls" 12+ miles up the road offers many Churches other than 14th Century old St. Marys'

I'm sure someone there could advise you.

chapel records should get to the GRO in the same way as church ones. It's always possible that records don't get from local office to the GRO, but the record should be at the local office covering the church/chapel where the marriage took place.

hello osprey, thankyou for your reply, but i seem to be going around in circles,i cannot apply to the gro without an index number. i have applied to the local record office the one for llanwrtyd wells would be in llandrindod wells i have been told they have no record of a thomas price marriage to a mary price for around the time of 1865 to 1869, i have also tried the brecon office and the carmarthanshire office (no luck there either) i have also tried the knighton office as well.thankyou again jan.

What about the marriage registered in Hay?  As Thomas was a plate-layer he would have moved around, so they might have married away from her home? Or after the birth of their first child? Or possibly not at all...

What about other offices which have some Breconshire marriages? Merthyr Tydfil, Blaenau Gwent, Neath?
