I think it was just a local term for where the Chinese lived.
This site might help http://www.portcities.org.uk/london/server/show/ConNarrative.127/chapterId/2614/Chinese-in-the-Port-of-London.html

Hi,
I've found an Oriental Street listed in the "General Index to Old Ordnance Survey Maps of London (Godfrey Edition) N.E. London; it is on a 1914 map covering the Stepney area.

Oh sorry I have found it in E14
Try this map http://www.mernick.org.uk//elhs/maps/s1952.htm
It is at the far end nearly at the bottom just joining East india Dock Road. I didn't think that was Shadwell, it is really in Poplar. Canton Street and Peking Street seem to be still there.
