Patrick John Malloy was the older brother of my grandfather Peter Malloy.
Patrick was born in 1897 in Meenavally Ardara Donegal. His parents were Bernard and Bridget Molloy. He emigrated from Donegal to Wishaw Scotland in 1908 with his mother and brothers and sisters, it is thought his father stayed on in the farm till 1911 and then emigrated to Philadelphia to stay with his brother Michael Patrick. After ww2 Patrick John emigrated to Michigan with his wife and family.
Patrick Johns wife died and he remarried for the 2nd time to his neighbour in 1964 aged 67years. According to vital records he died in 1986. I am looking for imformation eg census records, death records, marriage records etc to see how they got on in Michigan and what became of them I am hoping to get in touch with his siblings. Any imformation I find I will add to my family webpage the molloys of Meenavally. If anybody has time to do some lookups I would be very very grateful
Kind regards Jane

The latest census records available are from 1930, so if they went to Michigan after WWII, those won't help. Do you know what area of Michigan they lived in? Do you have a death certificate or obituary for Patrick?
-
I am sure he died in Oakland
-
Sorry he died in Saginaw, Michigan in June 1986 just 2 months short of his birthday. I don't have any birth or obits for him
Thanks for taking the time to look
regards Jane

McGhee,
There is a tree on Ancestry that lists a Patrick James Malloy, born 11 Aug 1898
with a death of 3 Jun 1986 in Saginaw ,Michigan.
Is this your Patrick ?
-
If you're getting the information from the Social Security Death Index, that doesn't give the place of death, just the last place of residence. The Michigan Death Index (which has the birthdate of 11 Aug 1998, which obviously isn't right) says he died in Thomas in Saginaw Co. on 3 Jun. 1986.
Was there a Robert Malloy in the family? There's one listed here: http://cemeteries.saginaw-mi.com/search/
There's an obituary listed for Patrick and a few other Malloys here: http://obits.netsource-one.net/ Look where it says Obituary Request Procedures - the library will send up to 5 obituaries with no fee. (It looks in there like Robert was born in Arkansas, so that's probably not one of your guys.)
-
Are you sure about the details you have on Patrick John Malloy because the records I've found don't match up with what's in your 1st post.
Patrick J. Malloy
born 11 Aug.1898 Saginaw, Mich (not Ireland)
died 3 June 1986 Saginaw, Mich.
spouse: Nina Laflair
Nina Malloy
born 1 Aug.1898 Saginaw
died 7 Dec.1971 Saginaw
spouse Patrick J.
borth Nina and Patrick buried St. Andrews
1930 census- Saginaw, Saginaw, Mich,: Patrick Malloy 31, Nina Malloy 31, James Malloy 1 2/12 (this would be the above Patrick and Nina)
1920 census- also Saginaw: Phillip J. Malloy 36, brother Patrick J. Malloy 21, aunt Margaret Malloy* 81 (born Canada, father-Canada, mother-Ireland).
Margaret Malloy* born Canada c1837, died 29 Nov.1924 Saginaw, to Saginaw 1881, also buried St. Andrews.

Hi McGhee,
I think when you were looking for a death of your Patrick John , you found a record for the wrong one .
The death date of Jun 1986 belongs to a Patrick James Malloy, and his obit and census records from Shellyesq, and Aghadowney shows that. Also the family tree on ancestry belongs to a Patrick James and lists his 2 wives of Nina LaFlair and Deborah O'Neill.
It also lists his parents as being - Patrick Molloy and Margaret Fidler.
Do you have any other information which might point in the right direction for your Patrick ?

Patrick John Malloy was definetly born in Ardara Donegal I got the records from the parish records and census of Ireland 1901, He had an electrician shop in Motherwell in the early 1940s and he was a trained electrician, it was his son that initially wanted to go and his father said why don't we all go. I don't know whether he went to work in the car factories in Michigan but I have heard that idea mentioned. He emigrated to Michigan after ww2. He definetly married for the 2nd time in 1964 as I got the imformation from the parish priest in Donegal there was a note next to his baptism of a 2nd marriage. Here are some pictures of Patrick in Michigan
Thanks everyone for your lookyups its much appreciated

The Social Security Death Index gives a birth date of 11 Aug 1897 for the Patrick who died in Jun. 1986 and last lived in Saginaw. That seems significantly off from the birth date you have, so I agree with mkftandc that they may not be one and the same.
-
Thanks Shelly
-
Just had a thought if anybody has access to ancestry they could lookup the passenger records they now go up to 1957
Thanks Jane
-
Ancestry has N.Y. passenger lists up to 1957 but only P Malloys I can see arrived in U.S. in 1920s. Your Patrick could have gone to Boston, Philadelphia or other U.S. port or even to a Canadian port.
-
McGhee,
In your original post you said that Patrick John immigrated with his wife and children.
Do you know his wife's name and her deathdate, place ?
Do you have his children's names ?
Do you know the name and date for his second marriage ?
Since nothing seems to match with your Patrick John , maybe some records can be found for his wife and/or descendants ?
-
I don't know his wifes name but she died in America, I know he had a daughter called Patricia thats all
Many Thanks Jane
-
Found an index card to immigration for -
Patrick John Molloy
b. 28 Mar 1897
Petition - 3 Dec 1953
State- Michigan
Court - Detroit, District Court -Index Cards to Naturalization - Eastern Dist. of Michigan , Southern Division.

This could be your Patrick as the birthdate fits but this all the information that the index holds. You would have to contact the courts for his Naturalization papers. If this is the right one. As I said it doesn't list a place of birth.

Kind regards Jane ;D
-
McGhee,
The only Molloys on that page were the ones I gave you. I did not search the whole ship manifest as it is 247 pages long.
I am sorry but I don't have the time to do that kind of a search for you. Maybe someone else wants to tackle that task but I can't.
-
Sorry Megan,
I didn't realise it was that long I am not very knowledgable about ships records and how long they were, I am very happy with what you gave me
Thanks again Jane you have been so kind
-
I didn't see any other Malloys/Molloys/Mulloys pop up on an Ancestry search for that ship. No need to go through every page, luckily.
The brother-in-law's last name looks to me like it might be Hastings, but there's writing over it, making it hard to read.
-
Shelly,
Is there any pics of them?
Thanks Shelly for having alook I do appreciate it
Kind regards Jane
-
There's a more specific date of death for Patrick J. Molloy in the Michigan Deaths, 1971-1996 at Ancestry. It indicates he died 12 Oct 1976 in Royal Oak, Oakland, Michigan.

No pictures, but I found a Detroit border crossing from 21 Apr. 1948 for Patrick John Molloy. It says he was in the US from Apr. 12 - Apr. 19, 1948, last permanent residence was 9962 Memorial, Detroit, Mich., and he was coming to resume residence. His brother-in-law is listed as Albert Hastings, 9962 Memorial, Detroit, Mich. It says Patrick was an electrician, 5 ft. 8 inches tall, medium complexion, brown hair, and blue eyes.
There's a resident alien border crossing identification card for Patrick John Molloy, which was issued 13 Oct. 1948. It says he lived at 12160 Winthrop, Detroit. His date of birth is listed as 3/28 and then the year is crossed out and written to the side is 1907. It says he was born Andara, Co. Donegal, Ireland. He was married. Occupation - watchman. Nationality - British. 5 ft. 7 1/2 inches tall, 165 lbs., fresh complexion, grey hair, blue eyes. He entered the US at New York on 4/12/48 on the Queen Elizabeth.
-
Shelly,
Thanks for the clarification on the Hastings name, very hard to read ( or I just need glasses !! lol ::)
Thanks,
Megan

McGhee-
If you want a picture of the ship, you can google the name " SS Queen Elizabeth " and several sites pop up with pictures of the ship.

I also found resident alien border crossing identification card for Annie Molloy, issued the same day as Patrick's. Same 12160 Winthrop address listed. It says she was born 18 Mar. 1903 at Motherwell, Scotland. Occupation - housewife. 5 ft. 1 inches tall, 140 lbs., fresh complexion, fair hair, blue eyes. It appears she crossed the border on 31 Mar. 1950.
Annie Molloy with the same birth date is in the naturalization petition index from Eastern District of Michigan dated 10-13-1948.

Now looking for the 2nd marriage of Patrick John Molloy who emigrated from Scotland to Michigan. He married again in 1964 aged 67 years, if anybody can help me I would be delighted, still trying to track down his offspring as well..........
