Hi Manxmaid
Do you know if your ancestors were buried in Newlands Churchyard, or where they lived?
I live in the Parish and could have a look in the graveyard for you
-
:) ;DHi Mrs A
Thanks for the reply
My Porteous family going by the IGI lived around Halmyre, Newlands, Drumelzier and West Linton.
Much appreciated if you could look for me, when you get time.

had a look around the old Newlands churchyard today . A lot of the inscriptions on headstones have eroded and are illegible but I did find a Porteous although possibly not one of your ones - John Porteous died at Whim on 30/6/1877 aged 41 also his wife Isabella McMinn, died aged 47 and daughter Mary Jane.
There is another graveyard in West Linton and the Drumelzier ones may possibly be in Stobo or Broughton churchyards. Halmyre is definitely in Newlands Parish are there were several graves from that estate.

Hi Mrs a
Thanks for looking for me, don't know if this family are part of mine or not, if they are they would be cousins of my ancestors.

Hello Manxmaid
My 7x gt.grandfather Stephen Paton was Minister at Newlands for 46 years to 1755.
My husband is a Walsh, and he has Turton's in his tree as well.
Maybe we have a link?
Mary Turton 1827 married chimney sweep John Walsh and had four children;
William, Thomas, Samuel and Maria, etc.
I have also found Manx ancestry too.
Hope to hear from you
Thanks

Rev.Stephen Paton married in November 1710 in Newlands. On this same parish record, I noticed the following marriage:
Oct 27th Thomas Ross in this parish and Margaret Porteous in the parish of Lyne gave up their names
Hope this is of interest
Cheers

Hi
Yes indeed we do have the same John Walsh and Mary Ann Turton, which line is yours?
I will take a look at that marriage for Margaret Porteous, though going that far back it is hard to to prove that there may be a connection with my line for the Porteous'

Hiya
Well fancy that, Iam also descended from William Walsh 1850, your Peter Thomas George Walsh sister Elizabeth Alice Walsh.
I have the death certificate for William Walsh born 1850 and all the birth certificates for William's siblings, I also found another child, I have the 1911 census for this family too showing your Peter his wife Ethel and their sons.
I have all the marriage certificates and censuses for all this family.
I have never been able to trace Mary Jane Walsh nee Boardman since the 1871 census apart from her giving birth to your Peter.

Hi, My father was Andrew Porteous Newlands and he was born in Letham in Fife. One of 11 children I believe.

Mrs. A
I would appreciate any help you could give me with the burial of a relative who died in 1919 at Plewlands. Her name was Josephine Isabella Helen Cumming Fraser, maiden name Clarke. She married an Alexander Fraser, gamekeeper. I know very little about her other than this.
My guess is that she may be buried at the Newlands Church. If and when you have a chance to look I would appreciate any information.
Thanks.
