I'd say 1912-1918, Geoff.

I've seen some photos just like that on various sites  :)

Hi Gadget

Both are pics of my mum's mum who was born in 1898, so your dating looks about right for the first one.

The second one was extracted from a larger photo in which my mum appears, so can be dated c1928 I think.

There is a mystery to the first photo.  My gran became Mrs BURNS in 1920.  On the reverse is written a photographer's note "Mrs Burns, Kirton Street, Cutsyke" (Castleford, Yorks).  My mum was born in Cumberland ... they were still there in 1924 when her little brother died ... but they went to Castleford for (probably) a short time during the depression, presumably in the late 1920s.  My mum could remember being there as we drove through in the 1960s and she could remember where her school had been.

But why did they get a copy of a photograph taken in the 1910s while they were in Castleford ?

Could it have been re-processed for some reason, Geoff  :-\

I guess it must have been a reprint from an old neg - it's just that I can't imagine why ???

Maybe if she was leaving to go back to Cumberland, she might have had some done for a friend/s - difficult to say really  :-\

She was lovely  :)

She WAS lovely.  Isn't it interesting how personality can jump out from a photo?  I liked the first one, and the snap taken later in life is even more attractive.  She looks like a lovely woman.   :)
