As you will no doubt know the 1911 Census on line has gone live for some counties today.
Previously my husbands g.grandfather was only listed as born in Scotland - but in 1911 it SOUTHWICK KIRKEND BRIGHT as his place of birth.
I'm assuming they mean Southwick Kirkcudbright. If so how do i go about searching for him please?
Is there a Scottish equivalent of the FreeBMD site for example?
I hope you will be able to point me in the right direction.
Thanks and good look with your searches.

Hi and welcome to Rootschat
There is no Scottish freebmd I'm afraid. This website will have the info you are looking for but it is a paysite
www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk
I have had a look at the Scottish 1871 and there is only one John Boyd in that age range b Kirkcudbrightshire - Colvend
1871 for Colvend
Here are the details just in case
James Boyd 36 b Kirkgengson, Kirkcudbt agric labourer
Martha 37 b Glencairn, Dumfries
John 8 b Colvend
Colvend; ED: 5; Page: 1; Line: 4
Do you have his marriage cert as it will show his fathers name if he married in England and both parents names if he married in Scotland

There is no Scottish FreeBMD, as Carole says, but there is the IGI that covers mostly all statutory births and marriages in Scotland from 1855 to around 1874. There is also some records from the Old Parish Registers for pre-1855. However, they may only be included if your family were Church of Scotland.

Just in case you find his parents - bear this IGI entry in mind
www.familysearch.org
JOHN BOYD Birth: 06 JUN 1862 Colvend, Kirkcudbright
Father: JAMES BOYD Mother: MARTHA JOHNSTONE
It's the only IGI entry in that age range in Kirkcudbright

Hi and welcome :)
The family that Carole has found is most likely to be the correct one since Colvend and Southwick are combined parishes:
See here for parish map - http://scotlandsfamily.com/parish-map-wigtown.htm

Crikey - that was quick! I'll read your posts and get back to you before I go to bed!
Thankyou.

This could well be it!
John Boyd had a daughter Martha - possibly named after his mother don't you think!
His other children were
Robenia Elizabeth
James
Ethel
Edith
Agnes
Alexander
Lucy
According to the 1911 Census John was married about 1886. His wife was from Shropshire but the 3 eldest children were born in London before the family moved to Shropshire (where many of the descendants still live).
Thanks for your help.
I'm going to search for wedding certificates now that I have a date.
Thanks again
Angie

Hi new to all this I'm looking for my grandfarther a son of John Boyd, married to Elizabeth (Wall) children May Boyd, (my grandmother or sorts) and Ethel, Edith, Agnes Alexender and 2 other children later. John Boyd was born in Scotland and his wife Rushbury Shropshire. The first child May was born in Kew in London whom we were told was our grandmother but wasn't believe she was taking looking after the baby for her younger brother Henry Malcolm very confusing ... they lived near Brookhampton farm Holdgate Ludlow. I really want to find this family of my fathers, kind regards Lucy Simister

Hi Lucy
Welcome to Rootschat :)
It might be worth you putting up a seperate request on the Shropshire board:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,255.0.html
This might get you more information about the family's time in England and then follow them back through that information.
Angie might have more information for you as well.

How exciting!!!!
I have JOHN BOYD married to ELIZABETH (born about 1861 RUSHBURY Shropshire) children include Martha MAY Boyd, James, Ethel, Edith, Agnes, Alexander, Lucy and Henry.
-
Really wow thats amazing. I'm quite taken a back, what relation are you to them? Lucy
-
I'm only an "in law" really - Robinia Elizabeth was my husband's grandmother.
I don't have your May as the first child though - Robenia was born in 1886, James in 1888 and Martha May in 1890. These children were born in London.
The remaining children were born in Shropshire. This is where John Boyd was living at the time of the 1911 census
