Title: Help with a place name
Post by: hinderR06 on Friday 30 January 09 17:58 GMT (UK)
Hi there, I'm looking for information on a Richard H Price, born about 1860, in a place called Lundier in Radnorshire. I also know that Richard had a brother called David, born about 1859, in Builth. Jean

Hi

Do you know his parents names or the name of his father from his marriage cert

I have checked freebmd births 1858-1862 and although there are births shown for Richard Price in Radnor - none were Richard H

The 1881 just shows Richard - what documentation did the H come from

Richard Price 30 coalminer b Builth Breconshire
Susan b Glamorgan Merthyr
David S 9 b Dowlais
Annie 8         ditto
Richard T 6 b Gelligaer
Emma 4          ditto
John 1             ditto

Hi there, sorry, David's son was Richard H. The Richard you have found is the right one. I'm trying to find Richards and Davids parents. Jean

If you got the birthplace of Lundier from the 1881 census entry (as I did) then the 1891 entry I showed above is the same person

15 Catholic Row(Gellifaelog Cottage) Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan,

Richard PRICE  21  b Lundier, Radnorshire Steel Melter
Susan PRICE  19  b Troedyrhiw, Glamorgan

There is a Richard Henry Price marriage in 1896 in Merthyr to  Gwenllian Annie Hopkins but he was b Cardiff 1873 according to the 1901 census

That is the only Richard H Price marriage in Wales between 1878 - 1896

I think you have amended your previous post so my reply above does not now refer.

The 1901 again shows his birthplace as Builth

If brother David was a lot older than him - this could be the family but I suspect it was a second marriage

1861 for Breconshire St John - children all b St John

Richard Price 57 shoemaker b Merthyr
Mary 37 b Battle
David 18
Sarah 4
Mary 1
Richard 1 month
RG9; Piece: 4212; Folio: 52; Page: 23

I need to check the 1851

I found David and family on the 1891 census, his birth was down as 1858, David died that year. Jean

Hi

To find his parents we have to first establish where he was born and there is a conflict between the 1881 census birthplace and later birthplaces

There is no 1861 entry for a David Price b Builth and the only 1861 for a Richard Price b Breconshire is the one listed above

Are you sure that Richard and David were brothers?

I think you need a copy of Richards marriage cert to Susan to establish his fathers name and occupation

If you look on the 1901 census, two of David boys are living with Richard and family, they have them down as nephews. Jean

Lundier = Llanddewi'r-Cwm?
 It's two miles from Builth.
