Hello folks,
Goslom I know was near Rothwell in the 1700,s but can anyone help with its exact position. I was hoping it was near Castleford to fit in with an ancestral find.

It is not listed as a place in Yorkshire on the Genuki website.

Where have you found the details that it is near Rotherham?

Hello Christine and Woody,
Thanks for the interest;
in the Rothwell Parish registers it is mentioned quite a number of times. One branch of my family is mentioned as glassmakers from Goslom - Goslem- Gozlom- Gozlem, dates of my index 1538 to 1812. Sometimes it says "from Goslom over the Hague". It is first mentioned in 1754. Other names that are quoted "from Goslom" are also glassmakers.
I know that some glassworks had their own houses such as Mere in Castleford operating during the late 17 early 1800,s. I wondered if Goslom was a glassworks.
I have looked in the early census records for the name, it is not mentioned.

Hello mmm45
Thanks for that, now I can pinpoint it, I was hoping it was not far from Castleford.

Just found your post.
Upper and Lower Goslem (Goslam?) were two sets of houses in Stourton,
south Leeds.
I lived there in the 1950s/60s and we always referred to the area as 'Goslem'.
On the attached, they can be seen south of Stourton Lodge, to the north of the Midland railway and east of Woodhouse Hill.
