Title: Can you read these names? Many thanks!
Post by: Claddagh on Wednesday 11 February 09 03:54 GMT (UK)
Hello everyone,

I have a challenge for you if you are interested.  This document is written in French but what I want to know is Bridget’s last name.  Is it “McGorran”, “McGowan”, "McGovern" or other?

Please look at the second paragraph row 5 and there you will find Bridget Mc???

In the second paragraph row 7 and row 8 are the witness’s names “Thomas McNaughton” and “Michel Arien or Arieu"?

Thanks so much for a fresh pair of eyes!

Take care and keep smiling!

I agree with Bridget McGovram/McGovran...or possibly McGowan...Thomas McNaughton looks OK, but I can't make out much of Michel's last name I'm afraid  :-\

Is this the only size image you have, Claddagh?

Oops!  Sorry about posting in the incorrect section.

Thanks CharlotteCH and PrueM for your help!  Here is another version that is hopefully more clear.

If you want you can save the document to your computer and then you can zoom in and try to make out the letters.  That's what I did and even used a magnifying glass to try and attempt to read these peculiar letters.  Priests certainly had fancy handwritting back in the day.

Take care and keep smiling!
