Hi all,
Yes Roots Chat has been helpful to me, though I think I have become a boring guest.
What has proven hard to me is that while I know my grandfather was born Aug. 13, 1865 in Lincolnshire, I know nothing of his parents.
I know he arrived in the States in 1901. I also know he married my grandmother in McLean County, North Dakota, in 1908.
Furthermore I ran off a 1930 census list for Horse Shoe Valley Township in 1930. He is listed as being 65 years old.
I know he died in the same township of McLean County in 1952. I am not sure of the exact date, but I could get a copy from our State capital in about a week.
Having said all that, what is really confusing is how to fill in the blanks.
The people on this site never cease to amaze me with the help they give and the information that is readily passed on. Yes, the site has helped me many times, and I would like to say thank you to you all..............Lyn
:)
It allready has. I've been able to move forward on one line of my tree.
Thanks Guys
:) :) :)
...and you will soon realise how addictive this site is ;D

Just come back to this thread after a long time :)
I'm puzzled by the 2 who think that Roots won't be of any help and wonder why they think that :-\

Oh yes! So many people have already helped me a huge amount, it really is a wonderful site, so many kind people on it. Just wish I could help others more often. :)
Yes, as well as finding help in finding ancestors, I've also, and more importantly, made lots of friends !
I love this site!!! :D :D :D There are so many helpful and friendly people who are amazingly generous with their time and skill.
Elin ;)
Doesn't half curtail your own research though ::)

I've jsut noticed that you are interested in Norfolk Hudsons. This is the best Board:

See its not true when they say you have to pay for all your research!

This thread was started almost six years ago and people are still reading it. Never give up. :)
I've heard of people solving problems of relationships after over 20 years, before Rootschat started I think, so keep at it, only 9 more years to go. If you have a major problem why not ask Tephra for a Scavenger Hunt?
I have just joined and RootsChat looks to be a great Site I am new to Forums and Family Tree building .. will go have a look around got to get my head round all this :)

Well, either I'm thick or poll is closed...lol Either way, my answer was YES.
One I have come across is where a couple, both in a second marriage and had children from a first marraige - his, hers and theirs scenarioI dont think that that is the case here, though. They married aged 25'ish in 1875. There was also an archibald Wallace Hinshel?.... one or two others and a Christine Smith aged 30. I have tried to find them on census, also births
His first marriage children and her first marriage children were absolutely no relation to each other but they were described as half siblings
They were however half siblings to the children of the second marriage!
I hope that RootsChat will be of help to me, but I am having a very hard time finding my way around in it. ???Hi Lewis, as you see here.. Indeed it will, but don't know how to vote sorry ???
You-all those people who come out - and help It is you who I am grateful to.Each person has their own way of helping and I am so glad. It is not nice being surrounded by brick walls, and very big thank you to Rootschat.com. for giving us the opportunity to interact. You are like pieces of a jig saw puzzle every little bit helps. For newbies it is a bit daunting as I remember getting asked all these questions. But one gets a bit excited about perhaps somebody will help me and then the magical pieces fit together. Bravo rootschat better than sliced bread. gmar
Would be lost -- totally lost without it :)

Hi there
This site seems to be excellent and very very user friendly and I love the ability to be able to attach images to the messages; great, keep up the good work.
The question "DO YOU THINK ROOTS CHAT WILL BE OF SOME HELP TO YOU" is very difficult to answer honestly as you only have three choices - Yes, No or Don't Know.
From past experience of Local & Family History I have found it more enjoyable to be able to help others in their quest for Ancestors, and get great satisfaction from solving difficult research enquires - so I therefore had to reply as 'No' or 'Don't Know' (I'll keep it secret as to which I chose), rather than being positive and saying Yes.
Think about it, is it better to give rather than receive?
