Hi ya, Agnes Ellen was born in Victoria, but no date or location is known just yet.
Franks daughter recalls the town or either Wyalla (Sth Aust) or Wyralla (NSW)
since there appears to be no Bantow in Sth Aust, it may well be of Wyralla NSW, a small village/town between Ballina and Lismore on Nth Coast.

Hi,
You have not mentioned how much information you have on Karl Julius BANTOW.
his digitised Naturalization certificate on the NATIONAL ARCHIVES site will tell you a very great deal about him including the birthplaces of his children and his addresses, if of interest.

 http://www.naa.gov.au

Search as a guest.
Sue

ADDING: He does say that 2 of his children were born in the US

a mixed up family it is, this is all for my half sister trying to find her fathers line,
when I say "no dates or locations can be recalled"
she is going with the memory or her great aunty that can somewhat remember a name here and there but no dates or location of where they were.

Sue I found the naturalization also, but lost internet so have been waiting to come back. Very good find.   ;D

I was of the impression he stated that he has 6 children of whom 2 were resident of United States California, One was resident of WA and 3 were in Victoria. There are 6 children already without Agnes. I wonder would it mean he may have more than 6, but only 6 were living.  :-\ We still don't have Agnes. Flogged may need some certificates here.

Pity the children are not named  :-\

at first I was told he was born in 1866, but then I told sister he arrived in 1859, so of course that would change things there, a birth date was not remembered, so great aunt would have trouble with memory.

Post by: sparrett on Saturday 21 February 09 05:58 GMT (UK)
I am refering to the date of birth he gives in his naturalisation particulars.  This does not depend on memory ;D ;D

Kris, I do see what you mean and I think you are right.  It means thier current place of residence, not their place of birth.

Bit ambiguous

On the Naturalization cert it has only the date of issue of cert, the date he arrived in Victoria and how many years he had live there, there is no birth date or other date noticable.

"My age is 76 and I was born on 24th February 1831"

My not looking further I suppose, in naa it said 3 reports, I looked at them and first on the page was Julius with naturalization, the other 2 were for his 2 sons.

Flogged,
I am wondering whether you are using the NAA site to its fullest.

On the display page which you have found, you will see "view digital copy ' on the part where the Naturaliation details are.
Click on that and the fuller document will open Turn its pages with the arrows at the top of the document.

hope it works ;D

It appears that Agnes, wife of Thomas, parent to Francis Alexander passed away before 1918 when Francis enlisted for service.

Fred/Frederick Julius BANTOW (Petition for Naturalization says Frederick - Declaration of intent says Fred) became a US citizen in 1915. He stated he was born 2 Jun 1883 in Melbourne, was aged 31, 5'10, weighed 165 lb, had light brown hair and blue eyes. He was an electrician who arrived in California, USA on the Ventura 6 Jun 1904 and now resides at 3049 Oregon St Los Angeles. His wifes name was Gertrude and she was born on the 14 Apr 1889 in Los Angeles.

Now,
I am not sure AGNES who do you mean.

THOMAS HENRY was a child of AGNES and WILLIAM BANTOW.
Whoever THOMAS' wife was had died at the enlistment time of Francis Alexander.  As you say, this shows on his record.
He[Francis] was not a son of AGNES and William, but a grandson.
 ;D ;D

There is also a record for a possible grandaughter for William and Agnes BARTLOW.
She is Yvonne June and her next of kin is JOHN [we wonder if it is JOHN CHARLES]
Not digitised :(

I see also one for he son William George with a wife ELLEN a Next of Kin.

For your interest, there are some BANTOW interrments at Fawkner Crem/Cemetery in Melbourne.
They include William George who died aged 75 in 1954
And
John Charles died aged 75 in 1955

Agree wholeheatedly re the death cert flogged. I don't know that the others are connected. (certainly not closely) Allan was born in SA. There is a tree.

http://members.iinet.net.au/~suekirke/K_Connections/Aust%20Logans/Alogn00i.htm

He is married to Laura and is a Salesman/traveller in the Electoral Rolls. William is an Engine Driver in 1925 and Lab in 1936. (Not spotted in Geralton until after marriage) I don't see George in the Electoral Rolls in Geraldton and he does not appear to connect obviously with Allan. (no birth for George in SA to fit)

Cheers Kris  :)

My name is Jo
A lot of these names sound familiar.
My nana's name was Myrtle Jean Bantow and her fathers name was Thomas Henry Bantow (buried at Youanmi Cemetery in WA).  Nana's brother was Frank and sisters Gladys and Florence (mother Sarah (I think nee Perry), I think she said her first mother died and her father remarried.  I don't know too much about her fathers history (or her sisters, I do vaguely remember meeting Aunty Glad a few times).  Nana lost contact with Frank (Francis Alexander Bantow) and thought he had been killed in the war but thanks to the internet I see he was still alive unbeknown to her.

Anyway I know nana's sister Gladys married a Logan and they lived in Albany (I believe Aunty Glad and her husband which I think was also Frank both died in Albany, I don't recall how old he was maybe 60+ when he died and her maybe 70+).  Most of my relatives married people from Geraldton, Mullewa/Morrawa and those regions.

Bit late in replying, but....

My Great Grandmother was Gladys Bantow.  Daughter of Thomas Henry Bantow.  She married William Keeffe of Mullewa, West Australia.  Her sisters were Myrtle and Agnes (pretty sure there was a couple of others too but not too sure off top of my head - I know Ida May the oldest half sister went back to Eastern states and there was an older sister also Gladys Bantow who died young).  Agnes married William Logan in Mt Magnet WA I think and then they moved back to Youanmi (also spelled Youanmi).  This is the Agnes who died in Geraldton.  I think some of you are referring to an Agnes of an older generation maybe.

Hi Jo, Granddaughter of Myrtle, I am granddaughter of Gladys Muriel Keeffe nee Bantow sister to Myrtle who lived in Mullewa I remember your grandmother coming to stay in Mullewa with Nanna and she was a real character. I think you will find Agnes their sister married Logan and they lived in Geraldton. Ida May who was Thomas and Sarahs eldest daughter lived in Melbourne she died at a early age and lived at Middle Park and one my sister now lives a couple of streets away from where she lived about a 100 years ago
