hi chris and jaq,
many thanks for such speedy replies.
chris, both census extracts appear to fit what i am looking for, will need to sit and look more carefully, as i only started on this particular branch this week and as yet dont have a lot to go on apart from a few marraige certs.
jaq, many thanks for taking time to search for me, but i cant tie your information in. notice that you are researching the surname Dow, i am also researching this surname, originating from Leith 1800 to present day Port Glasgow, have tons of information on this line.
once again, thanks, cant believe got 3 replies within the hour.

Hi Gill
Tried to find 3 Dellingburn Street in the 1881 census, just to see who was living there - but no luck, but I did find 5 and 6 Dellingburn Sq though.
Houses in the area, especially 69 & 73 Main Street had between 20 / 30 families in each of them - so would suggest they were possibly 'high rise blocks' of the Victorian era.

???Hi Gill,
I'm a beginner (only discovered the site yesterday) and not sure what I'm doing, but I've posted a new message on the beginners board referring to an enquiry you made in April 04, re Charles Gavan and Elizabeth Bonar - my great grandparents. I am trying to find out where they were born in Ireland. Wonder if you can help?
Many thanks.

Hi Kate, the family were from Eden, Derry (Greenlough Parish)
-
Regarding my last message I should have stated this refers to the Bonar/Bonnar family (there were 2 spellings of the surname used )

Hi Gill,
My Great Grandfather was James Bonnar, he was married to Sarah Bonnar (Cairns) and lived in Greenock. The only street i have searched is Cartsburn Street. James father was Daniel Bonnar and mother Sarah Bonnar (McPake) who possibly lived in Dellingburn Street which isnt far from Cartsburn.
One of James and Sarah's kids was my Grandmother Annie Bonnar McNab who married Donald McNab from Wemyss Bay Street Greenock. Annie sadly died during child birth in 1939 but had a brother called James Bonnar although i haven't done any research on him at the moment.
This info may be of some help if it's the same family. If i can help in any other way just let me know
Best regards
Alan
