Hi Ahmed
A corn merchant's set of 19th Century measures, comprising bushel, peck, gallon, half gallon, quart, pint and half pint
A corn merchant sells corn and if you look at the following website you can see.

Can you give me the reference number of the Census you got it from please? The reason being as it is easier to compare with other letters.

Just looked a map of Lincoln, and just to the north east of the city is a place called Dunholme.
Can anyone else see that in that word.......I think I can ;)

Many thanks Wendy and Carol. Yes, it is definitely Dunholme! :)
That was a great picture of a corn farmer. I am trying to establish, would a corn farmer have been relatively rich?
Thank you.

lol, he did own the farm, I'll post more details later, I am late for work - not sure if my boss would accept me being late because I was researching a corn farmer!!!
-
Sorry
Doesn't look like Dunholme. as there seems to be an "i" toward the end if the word.
Having said that Welton is the next village, go it is likely.
Where was the census taken? If you give us the number, we have a better chance of comparing the writing.

I saw that dot too Wendy ;) but wondered if it belongs to the line above, and as you say without being able to see the whole page we can't tell.
So when you get to work Ahmed(hope you're not too late!) let us know the ref numbers please.

Hi Wendy and Carol
I agree it is difficult without seeing the rest of the page. However the writing is pretty clear compared to some. I make it out as Dunleoline. I am wondering if it isn't an actual place name but the name of a building. I also am intrigued as to what other the census state for this person.

Thank you all,
It is very likely to be Dunholme, as said earlier, the very close proximity to Welton makes me sure it is that.
This was from the 1901 census for Kettering, for John Stevenson's household.
Reference: RG 13/1447
I have another image, can someone please tell me what it says? John Stevenson used to be a corn farmer in a previous census.
Thank you.

Hi
I tend to agree about Dunholme now. I noticed on the 1891 census Eleanor was down as born Welton.
The last image I see Corn Factor and Dealer in ? I cannot at the moment make that out.

I believe it says Corn Factor & dealer in Flour Cake .. ??
-
I'd agree with Pels-dealer in flour cake..although have no idea what it means.

Thanks all!

HI Ahmed_U
found this little snippet regarding being a Corn Factor
the business of a corn factor is perfectly distinct from that of a corn merchant,
because a person who receives consignments, and deals at the same time
on his own account, may not always be inclined to serve his employers with that
impartiality he otherwise would do."
If not already seen you may find this website article interesting

Many thanks, Wendy!
It seems that John Stevenson used to have a corn farm, and that when he became a little older, he became a corn factor. Makes sense to me!
Thank you.
