I was asked By Rabbit B about putting several photos together to create a small slide show.
This can be used as an Avatar as long as you do not exceed 50k.
The way I have done it is to create a GIF Image.
If you GOOGLE - PHOTOSCAPE, and download it(Its FREE by the way), you can use this program to make one.
It allows you to upload you photos and put them in the order you want. It also allows you to change the time that each photo is on the screen.
Then you can save it as a GIF Image.
Its not difficult, a little trial and error will sort it out.

Hi Dave :)
I've done a`few and they are fun but the max size for avatars is circa 20kb or preferably less as far as I can gather:

It's easy to compress the gifs to make them smaller. I did one for Mum44 this week - down from big to 14.5kb.
I also did a funny for Polldoll last year to show a restoration in stages :)

good morning Dave and Gadget,

Gadget please accept my apologies, i had no idea that you were as clever too. i only remember that Dave once had an avatar like that.
thank you Dave for your help

Good Morning Rabbit :)
I didn't take offence at all - I was really emphasising that it's not that difficult. You have to make sure that the various photos are alligned perfectly though or they come up rather jumpy.
I used to do small animations like this at art college - pre-digital days. If you do a complex one it's best to do a Story Board first .
Also, I was trying to emphasize that avatars should be 20kb or less rather than the 50k that Dave had said.

Sorry Gadget for the error about the size, another "Senior Moment" ;D ;D.
I am not very "techie" myself, but will have a go.
Just try and have a bit of fun.
If it all goes wrong, have a cup of tea and watch "Bargain Hunt" :D

hello gadget,
sorry i was out for a while, had the get my paw re-dressed.
that all sounds very clever indeed to me. how i envy people with artistic talent, i haven't got any you see, so that is why i hang out with clever people, in the hope that some of it might rub off. but i do get ideas now and then. hence the reason for this thread.
did you look at the pics on the other thread. they are really lovely

Yes I did :)
However, being an 'arty-farty' kind of person, I really liked the original - all those lovely blue marks. It was wonderful !
I think it's best, for the sake of Rootschat's performance, to keep avatars as small as possible though and best to stick to jpg or gif files not those enormous pngs.

hi again Gadget,
i think the original is a beautiful picture, but you have to admire the artistry in the others.
i agree with you about small avatars, but how could you pick which one of those lovely pics to use. someone would feel hurt whatever you do and he is hoping that someone will recognise this lady.

hi gadget, on the original photo those blue marks are like oil on water and they are reflective, the trouble is i have had the photo over 20 years and it is getting worse, in the end it will destroy the picture although it is beautifull. youngtug.

That's what I love about the original image - it's a work of art in it's own right - gorgeous :)
However, if you'd like to send me the set of the restored images and the original - all same size, I'll do you a slide show - will PM you :)

This is a sample of the first five that you sent - they're full size at the moment just to show what I've done so far.
Definirely not avatar size at the moment ;D

wow gadget,
that is wonderful, and impressive. wish i was that clever.
and it works and looks terrific. the pics i mean as well as being clever
young tug must be thrilled, i am and it isn't my picture, just my idea.
thank you for showing us how it looks.

Hi
Here's the full set - made smaller but still too large for an avatar. The main problem is that if I compress it too much, the images degrade so I might have to do 2 or 3 separate gifs and you can rotate them.

:D That's really exciting to see .... falling asleep, so I need to mark this thread in case I've dreamed it ! :)

Hi again :)
Youngtug - the alternative to 3 or 4 animations for your avatar might be to select just one version by each of the restorers. I see that there are a few multiples there. I know it's difficult but anything bigger that 20kb does make page loads that much longer.

hi gadget. good idea, john.

Latest version with one from each of those who did restores. Still slightly too big. I'll see if I can get it down a bit more.
