Hello all,
Can anyone suggest an answer to my problem i.e. a missing person.
While researching a James Whaley I have him marrying in 1901
Fathering children in 1902,3,4 and 7, I then have his wife marrying again as a widow in 1917.
My problem is that James's death is not registered with the GRO, or on the war graves site or any other index that I can find. I have checked using umteen spelling variations, I know that there is probably a simple answer somewhere, and hope that the combined brainpower of our Rootschat users can tell me what it is.

Just a few thoughts:
The children that were born in 1902/03/04 and 07 - were they all born in the same location as where their mum re-married. If they were, then odds on their dad is buried somewhere near - narrows down the search area.
Have you looked at the Electoral Rolls for the area they were born and followed the family through them - if so when does his name stop appearing in the Electoral Rolls, - maybe give an idea as to date of his death.
Not going to be easy though - he could simply have just disappered - she remarried believing him to be dead

I will follow up your suggestion of the electoral roll searches.
All the births and their marriages were in Macclesfield and certificates show James as the father.
If he went missing say during WW1 would she not have to wait seven years before marrying again and would his presumed death not have to be registered anywhere?
