Hoping that someone can help with this family once again.
I am trying to get any family information regarding Phillip Mothersole b c 1770, who married Jane Pye b c 1774. :) Parents and siblings etc??
They had 3 children.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

I am interested in this family also. Can I ask how you came by Jane as the wife of Philip? The grave of Simon Mothersole d1806 in St Peter's Parish Church, Great Livermere lists his parents as Philip and Susan Mothersole. Given the date and its proximity to the graves of Philip (died 1871) and Elizabeth (died 1862) I think it's a very good chance Simon was Philip's brother. The 1841 census entry for the family of Philip and Elizabeth Mothersole (nee Borley) lists a Susan Mothersole aged 80 - this may be Philip's mother. I am descended from Alfred Mothersole, the son of Philip and Elizabeth who changed is name to Motherstone.

Hi Lancep,
Welcome to Rootschat :)
I am sure the posters on this query will be on later today.
I just looked at the Census entry re Susan and it is also possible she could be Phillips grandmother by her age.
Cheers,
Trish

I have contacted the Suffolk CRO which holds a transcription made in 1930 of the gravestones of St Peters Parish Church, Great Livermere. I think the staff might have made some errors when interpreting the abbreviations for wife and widow since they have the widow dead before the husband in some cases but here's what they sent in reply to my query:
"Thank you for your email dated 27th August 2009. We have a collection of Churchyard Inscriptions which were made in 1930 which are hand written and abbreviated and I have listed below those with a reference to either Phillip of Susan Mothersole
Phillip Mothersole 11th November 1871 age 74
Elizabeth widow of Phillip Mothersole 2nd June 1862 age 63
Henry John Mothersole son of William and Susan Mothersole 25th April 1886 age 65
Jane widow of Phillip Mothersole 30th June 1813 age 48
Phillip Mothersole 30th March 1825 age 63
Simon son of Phillip and Susan Mothersole 31st August 1806 age 35
William Mothersole 8th December 1876; Susan the widow of William Mothersole 7th January 1886 age 94
Phillip Mothersole 12th June 1815 age 80; Susan his widow (no day) March 1802 age 61 or 60 not clear"

Hello Lancep
Many MIs have been transcribed over the years by various groups, including the WI.
The Local History Recorder for Little and Great Livermere might be able to help further. Let me know and I will PM you his details.

I have just started researching my Mothersole roots - I am descended from Philip who married Jane Pye, and their son William. Did you
ever get any information about Philip ? I would love to hear. Regards, Ruth O'Regan, South Africa.

Thanks Suffolk Sue. I suppose I sound greedy but is it possible to get any further back ? Ruth O'Regan

Suffolk Sue is kindly using the Suffolk Marriage Index, you will need to check the PRs to get back further ;)

Thanks Sue for the info. re marriage of Philip Mothersole and Susan Daynes. I subsequently found that Philip's father was Simon Mothersole who married Elizabeth Clarke at "Livermore" on18/01/1730. I also found another rootschat site when I googled" Suffolk County Bts" - are these sites not cross-referenced? (I'm very new at all this so perhaps that is a very silly question!)
I am curious to find out if possible what the occupation of Philip's grandson William ( born 11/04/1800) was - any suggestions?. Thanks again.

Mary Ann Mothersole was the widow of John Mothersole, son of Simon Mothersole of Great Livermere. He was born in 1777, son of Simon Mothersole & his wife Frances Garnham. Mary Ann Mothersole, maiden name Farrow, was born in 1788 in Sapiston. She married John Mothersole on 20 December 1816 at Sapiston. As far as I can tell they had no children, and he John Mothersole died in Wetherden, where he was buried in an unmarked grave on 18 February 1850. She went to live with her sister and her husband, Jeffrey Crick in the George Inn at Sapiston, where Jeffrey was the inn-keeper. She died and was buried in that grave in Sapiston on 14 November 1861. I can't find the George Inn in Sapiston now, there is a George Cottage apparently-does anyone know when the pub ceased operating and is there any connection between George Cottage and George Inn?
